It makes you feel valued as a team member not just an employment number. Also it does lower moral if you are trying your best and all you get is telling off when (being human) you make mistakes.
Agreed. Recognition matters to me. It's not a replacement for raises, but it does help morale.
There are levels of recognition. Giving people regular encouragement is a valuable form of recognition and I'm convinced it helps to keep morale high. If managers more or less ignore it when people do good work, that causes morale to suffer over time. Companies can't dispense incentives or raises very often, but recognition of good work should be a regular occurrence.

Indeed, I agree. And that applies to hourly level and management employees. Hard work isn’t recognized enough
I would rather somebody tell me I’m doing a good job than not. I do understand your point. If there’s no tangible recognition, it only goes so far. I’d say there are other problems if recognition lowers morale.
