Tax season is here! What’s your plan for your tax refund this year? Are you investing, saving, paying off debt, or treating yourself to something special? I’m thinking of trying out a sushi-making class — it seems like a fun way to learn a new skill, enjoy some great food, and impress friends at the next dinner party. Curious to hear how others are planning to use theirs!

If you’re getting that much back, curious why you aren’t adjusting it to have less taken out. I try to get as close to break even as possible I have my money throughout the year.

I'm not sure if I can. The refund is mainly due to itemized deductions and a side business loss.

Also wondering how you guys are ending up with such a big tax refund! (I’m guessing this is US specific)

like

Yeah its US specific. My case is mainly itemized deduction and a side business loss.

As with every year, if I get a big refund it will just go towards whatever we need and then I plan to adjust my withholdings so that I receive as small a refund as possible next year. Especially with this administrations, I don’t plan to give an interest free loan to the government.

I will look into it and thank you so much!

My laptop is starting to break right at the time of my tax refund. I’m going to get another one and upgrade it to business level set up. Invest the rest.

What refund?

I will put the money aside towards a savings fund for my first home & get a pair of prescription designer glasses!

That sounds like a great mix of saving and splurging! Do you have a designer brand in mind?

That sounds like a great experience and even better to come away with a new skill! We are being boring this year and putting away for our upcoming move this summer. Probably being more cautious than necessary, but would rather then and we’ll just enjoy once everything is settled!

That’s not boring at all! It sounds really smart! Having that cushion will definitely make the move less stressful.

I'm planning to put the majority in savings and use the rest for a family vacation this summer. It won't be anything glamorous, but a week at the beach will be a lot of fun now that my youngest is old enough to travel!

That sounds like a perfect plan! A beach week with the family sounds so relaxing, and it’s wonderful that your youngest can join in on the fun — probably for the first time on a vacation!

Hi fishes,

I received an offer from big 4 with 60% hike. My managers wants to retain and I asked them to match if you want me to be retained.
Now I got a call from GPM yesterday. He used harsh words like "being greedy" "selfish" etc and offered me 30% in the end.
I politely declined but he asked me to reconsider as he said "it would be unfair for the org for you to leave so soon."

Let me know a proper response.

Also what do you think of this behavior by GPM?

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

@Capco what’s the comms/content space like? I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews re: consultancy jobs, but that’s not my focus.
