The more I look at the job market the more I'm convinced that I need to be more "lucky" if that makes sense. It seems like finding a good fit will entail right place right time more than the right skill set. If you have found a good job situation, do you think you got lucky, had the right skills, or a mixture of both?

The best lead I ever got on a job happened pretty much through luck. I happened to run into a former colleague who suggested I call a friend of theirs, who knew of an opening. I'll say I was qualified for the job, so I earned it to that extent, but really, luck had a lot to do with it. Ideally, you need a combination of skills at the ready and some luck at the right time.

Very interesting! I know someone in my neighborhood who had a very similar experience. Sounds like its ideal to be prepared just in case youre in the right place at the right time.

Lucky to get resume pass through ATS and then on the interview. Not straightforward

Definitely not straightforward these days!

It definitely makes sense. I have been looking for a new job for 7 months and have only had two interviews total. At this point I do think you have to get the timing just right and luck has to be on your side.

Timing seems to be critical and so much of it seems to be outside of our control. Hope you find something soon!

Corporate / M&A folks making moves over the last few months: Got an offer from a top 50 lockstep AmLaw100 firm. 4th year. Not NYC but in a market that was recently bumped up to the previous Cravath scale market. Base is obviously set. What should I expect / negotiate for signing bonus, year-end bonus eligibility, special bonus eligibility, etc.? Any other negotiation considerations? I would say leverage is on my side considerably.

I’m quitting my job tomorrow morning. I don’t have a new job lined up. I’m scared, but also excited? I’ve felt under utilized for months, and haven’t had a promotion after two years. I never take risks like this, but life is too short. Is this a bad choice?

I’m currently working in Citi as an AVP in Mumbai for the past 9 months.. due to personal reasons I wanted to move back to Pune (I have worked in Pune for last 8 years before coming to Citi) so I landed up with an offer from HSBC into Wholesale IT (GCB5).

My current Fixed CTC in Citi is 26.5 excluding PF and Retrials and HSBC IT has offered me 30.5 for the same and said they cannot increase further as am moving jobs in after 9 months which is too early..
