I’m in industry now and have small children. I set hard boundaries and block my calendar from 5-8pm that’s family time. Occasionally will take calls after 8 with other regions, due to time zone challenges. But work not really, as that’s the only time I have with my husband without kids before we go to bed and have to start over again the next day.
Industry and working after 8 pm are two things that rarely go together. Depends on the industry I suppose but consulting hours are brutal compared to most.
Transition back was like riding a bike. I definitely have some regrets but also know that my earning potential and just general engagement with work was lower in industry.
I do believe it depends on the *team*. I’m in healthcare on a very high vis team and I work a good amount. I’d say 50ish hrs/ week but I have control of my schedule and can dip off when needed.
Daily I tend to finish at 4 (with a 7:30 or 8 start) and I’ll pick back up at 6 or 7 for at least 2 hours, depending on what I need to get done.
All of the Directors that I interact with are booked, limited free time during the day for weeks (myself included).
