Thinking of leaving consulting. For those who are Directors and above in industry, what’s your life like? Do you spend a lot of time preparing for daily meetings? Are you working after 8pm daily?

I’m in industry now and have small children. I set hard boundaries and block my calendar from 5-8pm that’s family time. Occasionally will take calls after 8 with other regions, due to time zone challenges. But work not really, as that’s the only time I have with my husband without kids before we go to bed and have to start over again the next day.

Industry and working after 8 pm are two things that rarely go together. Depends on the industry I suppose but consulting hours are brutal compared to most.

Transition back was like riding a bike. I definitely have some regrets but also know that my earning potential and just general engagement with work was lower in industry.

I do believe it depends on the *team*. I’m in healthcare on a very high vis team and I work a good amount. I’d say 50ish hrs/ week but I have control of my schedule and can dip off when needed.

Daily I tend to finish at 4 (with a 7:30 or 8 start) and I’ll pick back up at 6 or 7 for at least 2 hours, depending on what I need to get done.

All of the Directors that I interact with are booked, limited free time during the day for weeks (myself included).

To anyone who had immigrated to the US and have kids, know that they notice your sacrifice and learn from your hardships. I sat down with my dad to ask him his opinion on what I should do with my cash, originally was saved for a down payment. I showed him the breakdown of my net worth and he thought I added an extra digit. I had to reassure him it was correct. He asked how it was possible since he knows my income. It was all because he taught me to make sacrifices (small for me) and invested.

sigh* last week Saturday my s/o & I broke up after our 3 year relationship. & it really been affecting me negatively — not eating, autopilot mode, self isolation & diving deep into work. Today I decided to go outside, where I picked up some food to go and went to an outdoor movie by myself; where I had the realization I just really enjoy being by myself. Idk, maybe I’m just better off single after so many failed relationships/am I being dramatic? but anyone else has given up on love?
