I think you have a few issues you’re going up against. Heck we’re all going up against these. Firstly, they’re probably 100 to 200 people applying for every job you are. So it’s harder to stand out. Secondly, a lot of these organizations have moved to AI resume screeners. Which makes getting your resume pass a robot to a person crazy difficult.
Best advice I've seen besides using contacts is to be one of the first 100 (or much less of possible) to apply. Worked for me several times.
I have never, in almost 20 years of industry experience, encountered anything like what the job market is today. It never took me more than a couple of weeks to land a job. Now, I've been job hunting for close to 2 months, and have only had 1 interview. I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you as what I'm doing apparently isn't enough, but I do have plenty of empathy.
Volunteering. It gives you opportunities to improve/maintain your skills while meeting new people. It also gives you something new to talk about at interviews. Personally, I'm volunteering to help startups with marketing strategy questions (no execution permitted). It's been great - I've added ecommerce to my experience and also working with a variety of companies.
