Whenever I start getting nervous, I just try to shift to an analytical perspective. He's a business owner, part of owning a business is paying your employees. Raises and wage negotiations are a very natural part of a business. So go in with the confidence knowing that this is a very normal and acceptable part of a very normal and acceptable aspect of running a business.
It's not pathetic, it's pretty normal. The nerves don't really ever go away. What helps me a lot is writing out what I want to say beforehand and practicing it. Being prepared is the best way to go into anything in life feeling confident.

Make a list— prepare all the achievements, changes or efforts you have made in your role. Assess the role you were hired for versus the role you are playing now.
Making a visible or tangible thing to either present and just refer to helps in conversations like this!

I also get nervous speaking with the owner, so I make sure to rehearse my points and back them up with solid analysis. That preparation usually gives me an edge.
