100%. I’m team 'don’t set yourself on fire to keep bridges warm.' Be respectful, but not at the cost of your dignity. If someone treats you poorly, they already burned the bridge. I learned that the hard way after having a manager who screamed at me. What’s one behavior that’s totally unacceptable to you?
I think as a general rule it's best not to burn bridges. It just makes sense, we never know what the future holds, and we may run into the same characters again. And, in some fields that's almost assured. But I would say that we will all encounter some bridges that probably deserve to be burned. Maybe it's good not to get too dramatic over it, but putting some situations in the rear-view mirror is often the best choice.
I mostly agree with this. If push comes to shove, you have to be willing to put yourself first. Thankfully this has not happened to me often in my career, but if it does, I know I'd be willing to sacrifice that friendly relationship for the sake of my own wellbeing.
