Yeah definitely test it out. Just say “hey can I send you $5 to test Zelle?” Then a week later send your gift 🎁
Test it before you send it. Once it goes to the wrong person nothing can be done to undo it. It’s better you tip him off with a test of $5 rather than $500 going to the wrong person
Could you find him on Venmo? At least there you could check username and picture. I once had an issue with someone using zelle and their number not being registered

Try sending me $50 and I’ll tell you if it works

I use Zell all the time - totally safe. As long as you have your brothers full name and his phone number and his bank participates with Zell he will get the money.
The recipient also has to accept the funds, so technically he has the option to decline. There’s also a max amt per day if a new recipient, typically $500 for the first week or so then it goes up to $1K, then eventually $2.5k once a few weeks go by
Venmo
Yes, Zelle needs the receiver to be registered on Zelle and there’s a potential delay of 3 days for the registration to be processed. I know from personal experience. If he uses Amazon, an Amazon e-gift card is the easiest or Ubereats/doordash e-gift cards. Venmo would be the better option if you want to send money.

If he has Chase (or most other banks) he can access Zelle. Make sure you have the email or phone number that is attached to his account.

Venmo cash app zelle PayPal Apple Cash all the same thing
Zelle is super specific on the recipient zelle profile - you would need to know if its his phone, email, or what piece to reference for the transfer. Once sent it will freeze funds for 14 days until it is resolved, even for the same recipient.
Venmo!!!!
Sometimes Zelle has a limit of like $500 max for first time recipients
I think Apple Pay is a good option because he’ll definitely get it. If he doesn’t have Zelle setup through his bank, it’ll remain pending and you’ll have to cancel the transaction. I’ve gone through this recently with a friend.
Use Cash App, you can literally send it as a gift through text where they can “unwrap” it and the amount is a surprise until then. It’s a cute option.
Zelle is pretty painless. I have used it with several friends who "don't have Zelle" but it was fine because it seems all the financial institutions can accept it, they just didn't know what it was.
Another for Venmo!
