What do you think is one thing HR should focus on during the first week back after Christmas?

Making sure no one has a change on their benefits. I.e. a death of birth of marriage. If anyone needs to update their tax information any updated addresses. Also gearing up for when those tax forms are sent out you don’t need anyone saying they didn’t get it. Of course calms in teams check in to make sure everybody is still alive and if there are any updates or any new goals organizationally and by each manager?

Getting ready for the new year is a big one. Making sure all of the teams are aligned and communicating well. Getting everyone back on track after so many team members were out on holiday.

It will vary based on org and role. Something that’s on my radar for next week is to review new laws across the US and Canada that went into effect on Jan 1. Things have gotten more complex over the years with cities and states/provinces enacting requirements that go above and beyond federal law.
Beyond ensuring compliance in the present, new legislation often paves the way for more to come, so you can incorporate those insights into your planning.

Do you have a go to spot when referencing all of these? I just google away but would love to hear what you use!

HR needs to start responding to all the applicants that been applying for the last 6 months.

I think HR should focus on stabilising basics first week back. Clear priorities, realistic workloads, and resetting expectations instead of launching new initiatives immediately.

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.
