What led you to pursue a career in finance? For me, my dad was my number one influence. He taught me to create financial reports for his rental management company as young as 13. I seemed to pick up on it fairly quickly, and he encouraged me from there and it felt only natural to major in finance in college.

That’s such a cool start. For me, it was kind of the opposite. I didn’t grow up around finance at all. I got curious about budgeting in college, then started learning more about investing and realized how much I enjoyed it. Did you always know you'd stay in the field long term?

No I actually didn’t think I’d make it past 25. My “real” dream was to be a stay-at-home mom. However, the years keep going and I still haven’t had any children. I don’t think I would leave now though even if I do have kids. My perspective on life has completely changed, and I’m confident I could do both.

That's incredible. I wish I had such a strong background at that age. Sounds like you really are a natural! I never anticipated getting into finance honestly. I worked as a dental assistant but helped our bookkeeper when we were slow. I was shocked when they asked me to take over her position when she retired, but I surprisingly love it.

I majored in accounting just on a whim, I liked numbers, but was kind of going in blind to everything. Actually really struggled with my first classes and wasn’t sure if I was going to make it! Eventually things started to click and happy to say I really do like my job even though others think I’m crazy for it!

I actually started out as an accounting major! I transitioned over to finance about halfway through school because I fell in love with economics and wanted something more in the middle.

That’s a great story! Starting so young must’ve given you a solid foundation. It’s always inspiring when someone turns an early experience into a career path.

Mine was all in school! Realising I did not want to go to university, so chatting with my business studies teacher, he gave me a load of different studying / trainee routes I could go down! He said finance was my best topic in business studies, so I went with it! :D I also have a mum that is a contracted financial controller, so doing work experience with her at least allowed me to see what working in finance is like, and I loved it!

Hi Everyone,
I need your views and suggestions. I have two doubts:
1. Is it fair to leave an organisation (big brand) after a year as the environment is real toxic and there’s no career growth as well in terms of good work.
2. If I have to make a switch do I really have to target big brands only or can try for medium and small size companies too.
