Why did you get an MBA or why are you getting an MBA? Feeling very lost as my ultimate goal is to relocate to my country of origin (developing country) to pursue my entrepreneurial journey (cotd)
Ladies, I need some urgent advice regarding abstinence. My bf and I are Christians and we are trying to be serious about abstaining from sex before marriage. It has been a huge struggle. We have failed so many times and we want to do better. He is going for an MBA soon and we won’t be able to get married till the next 3 years at the minimum. Anyone have any tips on how we can manage this issue 😭 has anyone here successfully done this before ?
Made a dumb mistake two years ago and did my mba at a school outside of the top 25 - how does one recover from this?
Is Accounting even a major that students are attracted to anymore? I’m helping for recruiting and we barely had any students show up for recruiting to a school where I went and the line for big 4 was wrapped around the wall. It makes sense if Going to school for accounting + extra credits to get to 150, lower starting salary, more hours during busy season, and have to pass the hard CPA exam. Doesn’t sound attractive to me.
At what age (and how many years post-mba if you got one) did you hit $300k TC (salary + bonus/equity). Not counting retirement contributions. Feel free to comment if you’re close or expect to be soon
I’d much prefer a Christmas bonus over a holiday party. Even if it’s $500, I’ve mised, 3 out of the last 4 Christmas party’s (client obligations/ CPA exam) and about to miss another party.
Poor MBA student should probably have checked the "To" field before sending... I won't hold it against him but thought it was funny
I’m a very lazy and unmotivated employee. Thought going to a top-10 MBA and into consulting would fix me but now I realize it’s not for me. Not sure what to do next. I’m probably too dumb for S&O or internal strategy in industry. I unfortunately have a lot of student loans so I’ve gotten used to a consulting salary, however. Any tips?
Honest question: why are so many consultants interested in an MBA? At least for those in top firms, don’t you feel like you already have many of the skills an mba would teach? And don’t you feel you have the professional experience and reputation to jump to prestigious and high-paying roles post-consulting (whereas many people seem to get an mba specifically to break into top tier consulting or VC/PE)? Wouldn’t a different degree be more beneficial to your education and qualifications?
A prerequisite for MBA admission should be being single. STOP TAKING UP SPOTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNERS! This is ridiculous - the one place we can find someone, everybody’s already committed
Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.
What’s the real difference between Tier 1(MBB) and Tier 2(Deloitte,etc.) consulting? I am planning on getting my MBA but would like to know what the main differences are between the two sets of firms
I’m not ashamed to admit that 75% of the reason I’m going to get an MBA is with the hopes of getting an MRS out of it too
If I go to a non-HSW M7, what are my chances of getting a post-MBA offer from MBB? Just looking for offers/applicants numbers (ballpark is okay).
I am sooo frustrated. I’m struggling to pass my cpa exam and just struggling to live life in general. Any advice? Im so close yet so far to where I want to be in life. My world is collapsing.
Do you consider 175k total comp with 5 yrs of consulting experience good? I know its not great for mbb....i also dont have an mba
Lmao. Needing to post about how much emotional intelligence you have - who are these cringe lords? And he went to tufts and got his mba from Baruch...
Admitted to Wharton MBA. Attended a welcome event last night and left with a negative impression of several alum. One in particular told me...
People that have gone on to do an MBA at a top 20 school- did you bring your SO? Isn’t the whole point to immerse and establish great relationships? Wouldn’t bringing your SO severely hinder this?
Not to brag, but just crossed 200k annual comp with my raise and bonus this year. Still living in NYC, paying 2k a month in MBA loans, and 1k to support patents, but now feel a little more secure. 😀
After seeing the MBB 80+ work hours post, I’m wondering, is MBB unfriendly to mothers of young children? I was planning on applying after MBA (target school) but now I’m slightly deterred...(cont)
How much do you guys have saved for retirement? Turning 30 soon and had a mini-crisis on If I’m saving enough. For reference, I have $110k in a Roth IRA (did 401k rollover during MBA) and $10k in a 401k. Saw articles that show 1-1.5x salary in retirement by 30, which makes me feel behind the curve?
Firm will sponsor my MBA, but is it worth going? Two years of lost earnings and no additional gain in promotion trajectory. I know an MBA can be a good two year vacation, but I’m not sure if there’s much more value besides that. 🐠 who did / didn’t take the MBA sponsorship, what was your rationale?
Is golfing for business still regular thing or has it fallen out of practice? Especially asking at tier 1 and 2 firms. I have been playing all my life but not sure if I should take it more seriously as I start MBA.
I am leaving consulting but my wife is looking at applying when she finishes her executive MBA. She did a PhD and her current job is low effort (her words). She is convinced that consulting or a very successful corporate career (c suite) can be achieved in 40 hours a week. I dont think this is realistic in 95% of situations, including ours. We both want strong careers and need to allocate enough time / out source house work. How can I stress that her expectations are way off? Or am I off base?
I just don’t understand the hype around getting an MBA. Unless someone is going to pay for it, is the pay bump really worth the debt?
Is it ok to list your GPA a tiny bit above where it is on MBA/job applications (jobs only if they require it) to make a cutoff? For reference, my GPA is 3.498, can I list 3.5?
(24M) Help on finding a career path ? I graduated from Boston University with a degree in comm w/ a concentration in advertising. Ive been in the industry for almost a year as a media planner, and have generally enjoyed it. My biggest issue though is the money. I didn’t go into the field expecting to get rich, but it would be nice to not live in poverty...Im considering going back to school to get an MBA in marketing as I feel this will complement my work experience and UG degree. (cont.)
I know imposter syndrome has been discussed a lot here and it’s something I’m working through. A girl in my MBA class told me “Of course you’re good at giving presentations-you’re pretty and blonde.”
I always thought my career and getting into a top MBA program was my top priority but this job has made me realize having a family and spending time with my kids matters more. Judge all you want.
Should I go to a coding bootcamp before my MBA? I want to do product management at a tech firm, or work for a startup after b school. I have some foundational programming knowledge already.
Could we get a master thread going for MBA programs’ current responses to coronavirus? 1. Virtual/hybrid? 2. If hybrid, what are the details? 3. Is there consistent testing? If so, how often? 4. Changes to tuition? 5. Culture impacts - are extracurricular clubs meeting in person? Etc.
Want to switch to Product Mgmt but don’t have much hands on experience working with engineers on code iterations, though plenty on UX and Business side. Would Agile certification be useful? Which one?
How did people decide if they wanted to go for MBB, FAANG, or IB during MBA recruiting? I'd want to spread my chances across all, but heard you should focus on one.
MBA folks - do you still have your education first in your resume after 3 years of consulting experience? Or it’s professional experience then education? FYI, Top 10 MBA
Is it worth pursuing a joint JD/MBA dual degree? I know Northwestern offers a 3 year program, and I’m comfortably in the middle of their 80% range admission stats. Would use the GI bill to pay for it
I just got counseled out at 10 months. I have an mba and 4 years of total experience. Where do I go from here? Want to crawl in a hole and never come out
FYI: if you're sitting for the CPA exam in April/May you won't get your score until August 18. Apparently with the new format they need time to validate performance.
How “low” in the rankings can you get your MBA while still having a good shot at BB and EB investment banking? I’ve heard people say M7 and I’ve also heard that anything top 20 will provide a good shot.
Are MBA case interviews generally harder than UG ones? Am going to start b school nxt yr and don’t know if the case interviews are going to be harder than the ones I encountered in UG. Thanks!
Anyone quit without anything lined up? Feel like I want to just take some time to travel and rethink my career goals after 9 years. Already have an MBA from a top 10 and saved up for time off but...
Unexpected side effects of the CPA exam: I’m finally taking down my outside Christmas decorations and weeding my yard.
A buddy of mine wants to leave work after a year, take some classes, then do an MBA. His gpa is not good (sub 3.5). Im not sure what advice to give him, since he seems pretty set on it. Good or bad?
MS in Economics/Finance or MBA? Trying to get company to pay for one and jump ship after fulfilling the two year commitment after graduation. Thoughts?
The Marriott Rewards Premier Plus 100k sign up bonus ends July 12th. Is it worth applying for this card to get the bonus ? I already have a chase sapphire reserve
Big online purchase coming up (>$20k). Best CC for it? Willing to open new card for the bonus! Will eventually compare the points vs. the wire/bank transfer price before final decision
Do we need to get special permission to go to firm trainings that are not in our home office? Can we just book travel and expenses to CED?
For someone that has left consulting for a strategy position, what does your day to day look like?
Recruiter gives salary range of 130-145k in initial convo. I say under 155k would be hard, he says “$10k higher, that’s doable.” Healthcare at company sucks - so Now want to ask for 160k. Is that ok?
For folks who are looking at exit opportunities: does it make sense to try and work for the M&A group within your firms before looking for corp strat roles? Looks like deal exp is reqd in most roles
I.....don’t even....this is from an interview with the Las Vegas mayor. This pandemic is revealing the crass, blunt, and ugly underbelly of many of our so-called “leaders” across the country.
On this Valentine's day, I just want someone to look at me the way Ivanka looked at Trudeau, and look at them the way Bill Clinton looked at Ivanka 🙃
Just had a awful experience with ex-consultants agency. Recruiter set up a call, started talking about the wrong role, then pulled up someone else’s resume. Anyone experience something similar?
To BCGers: Thinking of applying for temporary transfer to other office. What would be the potential reasons except personal relationship and health reasons for this?
Anyone looking forward to Borat 2? Below is the hotel scene with Rudy Giuliani in a compromised position lol. https://twitter.com/RexChapman/status/1319497602900152320?s=20
Those that look at client tax returns. Do you have a process for this? What specifically are you analyzing. I’m just starting to do this for clients. Thanks!
Is Deloitte strict about hiring exclusively current students into their BA class? I'm less than 1 year (7 months) out of undergrad but would like to move to uncle D.
