Prioritizing my mental and physical health no matter what. I work from home so this is easier for my situation but when I made the decision to recover from burnout, I blocked out my calendar for 30 mins everyday to get a quick workout in. I also made time to go for walks every morning before starting work. It’s amazing what a little fresh air and physical activity it does for the soul.
Additionally, and this was a huge one, I got off the awful and life sucking project I was on. I didn’t leave the firm because I couldn’t give up the benefits so I did the next best thing and found a low key internal project that has helped me establish healthy boundaries and have more WLB.
With that came more healthy choices and prioritizing myself and my needs. I can say now I’ve fully recovered from the crippling burnout I was experiencing a year ago. A healthier, happier me.
Wishing you the best of luck on your journey to recovery.

Understanding what changed or was introduced that added to your burnt out. Develop recovery plan and scale back activities and balance work / life priorities. Take meaningful unplug breaks. Set realistic mental/emotional health goals to help you measure progress. Leave toxic people, jobs, and situations behind and only invest in value add activities and relationships.
Sometimes you need a prolonged rest - a week or more to completely disassociate and re-evaluate why you are being burned out.
For me, it was realizing that I was a chronic people pleaser and have a very hard time setting boundaries because I don’t want to be seen as an average/low performer. I also had to separate my self worth from my work. I am still a work in progress, but I had to realize why I was being burned out so I could try to take action
I overcame TERRIBLE burn out - mental and physical. Use your time outside of work wisely. Social media, watching tv, being on your phone, and other screen time may seem relaxing but can exacerbate burn out. I have to make sure that I do things I love after work that don’t deal with screens. Crafting, reading physical books, walks, etc.
Little tricks for your brain can do wonders. Have a work closing ritual if you WFH that tells your mind you’re done for the day. I clean my office, light a candle and shower to wash off the day. I also consider Friday the weekend. Even though I work like normal on Friday’s, just calling it the weekend makes me feel less burdened by how many days I have to go to work.
And rest. Take a long weekend or a staycation week and just rest. Even turning off work notification on your phone after office hours can help with rest. I wish you luck on your recovery.
