Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? Tbh I get so many emails, I only have time to go the extra mile for folks who have a compelling connection to me — people who worked with people I know, people who went to my alma mater, people who went to the free portfolio school I volunteered at, etc. I really do try to meet with 2-3 a week, too. Unsure where all the other CDs are at but that’s how I have to approach it.
I’d recommend finding CDs you can connect with first (especially with some networking hook), and build those relationships over time.
I would not expect a first connect cold email to really ever lead to your book being placed higher in the pile.
