How accurate is this person's experience at McKinsey? Sounds absolutely brutal! https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/09/my-bosses-at-mckinsey-made-us-get-on-2-a-m-zoom-calls/
I got a not good observation from my principal last May teaching on Zoom. I was beside myself at what he said about my teaching and thought it would pass. I am still so frustrated that for the first time the observation he gave me is making me not want to teach or come in to school. I can imagine I'm not teaching my best because of my distaste for my principal's senselessness which hurts the kids.
In a meeting I said, “creatives can be savages sometime.” because of their unruly behavior towards internal teams, pushing deadlines, or throwing tantrums. I was called out and chastised by a junior creative for using the word “savages” in an unacceptable manner because the word is slur to non-whites in a zoom meeting. I am a BIPOC creative. Am I the asshole?
If you teach 11th and/12th-graders any subject, PLEASE consider participating. I need 14 more questionnaire participants and 19 more Interview participants. In being transparent, I'm trying to finish during this semester so I don't have to pay for another semester out of pocket. Anonymity is FIERCELY protected, even with the Zoom Interview. I sincerely appreciate all participants. ❤ Questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DRKCBSK Zoom Interview: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D2P6TWD
Does Slack have an office in India?
Want to join a book club where we read classic books and discuss via zoom or chat. Didn’t get to put myself through college, so missed out on this sort of thing - but absolutely loved doing this in high school! I feel like it would be enjoyable to get through the hard reads together. Any leads?
McKinsey Employees: is this article accurate? https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/09/my-bosses-at-mckinsey-made-us-get-on-2-a-m-zoom-calls/. McKinsey & Company
Hi! May I get a referral to slack? I'm learning to not sell myself short even tho I'm a boot camp grad. I've seen a couple of boot camp grads land at amazing companies and I'd love for my life to change like theirs.
Its time to bring out the pataguccis for zoom calls https://www.instagram.com/p/CULW3NKJjGI/?utm_medium=copy_link
I have a legit medical exemption for the Vax. Does this mean I cannot go into the office and client cite? Will I be forced to work from zoom? Also will everyone think I’m antivax and judge me?
Co-worker just messaged me on Slack - it's her first year with us - CW: "Hey, how does holiday time work? Christmas is a saturday. Do we get the week off?"
Hi, everyone. I searched and didn’t see a relevant post. Is it best practice to have your video on during an entire 5-hour CLE on Zoom? Very much hoping not- if not, is there like a % that I should have it on?
I’m… too sexy for this slide, too sexy for this ping, too sexy for this zoom, too sexy for this email, too sexy for these edits yeah yeah… I’m too sexy for this pitch, too sexy for this manager, too sexy for this BD, too sexy for this firm, yeah yeah…
Anyone have any tips on conducting productions via zoom? We’re hiring small freelance crews in other countries bc covid travel is a no. Wondering what to expect. Will be conducting interviews.
What to do when your new job has a very unstructured onboarding process? Expected to know how to do everything with one brief walkthrough via Zoom, and more or less left to guess everything else.
When you join an MLM Zoom call as a courtesy to your friend and the other MLM person works at your company O_o
I’m interviewing for BCG and had a principal reach out to me for a zoom chat. Is this normal for principals to reach out or is this a positive sign?
Sick of biglaw but I want to stay one more annual bonus season. I’m seriously burned out and would like to shift gears but I’d like to leave after ending my 5th year. I am potentially looking to just try and hide/keep my head low to avoid work as much as possible/“slack off” and wonder how possible is to do that for a year without getting fired? I aim to maximize vacay time, and just in general try to avoid any work I don’t absolutely have to do.
Looking for some virtual-meeting best practices to fight Zoom fatigue. Anyone work for an agency (or know of an agency) who’s trying something different with them? Thanks in advance.
It’s been a grueling 18 months, for everyone. There’s a unique story I’d like to share and it’s my own but I have to believe it’s not only mine. I was privileged enough to be able to WFH during the pandemic and change jobs to a fully remote job during this time. The isolation has become so complete, with the lack of connection and professional rapport or daily respect/clarity thru slack convos and sporadic zoom - I’m at an all time mental low barely able to start this Monday morning.
who’s doing the sfdc and slack integration?
Is it normal to get ghosted by an ECD after they show interest in hiring you? Chatted over Zoom with an NYC ECD earlier this year. They told me to get in touch with them in August about meeting in person. I did what they said. I've emailed once a week since the start of August, but have heard nothing. I understand that ECDs are busy, but I wonder if I should give up.
That look when I receive an email about a new Teams Channel where I find an update instructing me to sign up for team updates via Yammer and training via Zoom.
If I'm expected to take a Zoom call during my lunch hour, I'm eating on camera. Also, who cares if my lemonade happens to have a salt rim - let's just focus on the work.
Regular tips and strategies to keep meeting facilitation fresh? I host a lot of meetings every week with my teams and I’d love a way to keep up on new ways to engage people (mostly over zoom). Any great orgs or circles that share this kind of content?
Received an invite for a superday very quickly after applying to Goldman. Recruiter never sent me the zoom password and then the password failed to work so everything started a full 15 minutes late. Interviews went great including a “they’ll definitely be a second round” but then I received the rejection email the next day. Do we think the tech issues played into that significantly or just my interview not stacking up to other candidates?
Today my boss asked me if I was okay, and I just burst into tears. It wasn't even in person either, it was over bloody Slack. Wtf is wrong with me?
How do I deal with a super intense senior associate that is making life difficult? This associate sees no difference between 11 AM and 11 PM, weekend or weekday. They will text me on my personal cell instead of emailing, insist on long zoom calls during which they insist on turning camera on, won’t review anything I send them unless it’s on a zoom call (yes, that is crazy and not the norm at my firm), and is not a good team player (something good? He did it! bad? You did it)! What do I do?
As a staff on the consulting side, does anyone else find it awkward to join a zoom call with the client before the manager/sm joins in?
I had a zoom interview with three partners last Thursday. I thought it went super well, but haven't heard anything yet. Should I follow up with the in-firm recruiter, if so, when? This is for a position in a highly ranked but regional (mountain state) firm. Thanks!
What is your avg screen time? I’m using at 7-8 hours each day which seems insane but maybe it’s because I use my phone for all the zoom calls?
This has been on my mind for a few weeks, and I have to get it off my chest: Via slack, did you PING him? Or did you PANG him? Heard someone say PANG one time and now I’m lost…
Friend wants to join consulting for the pay. I don’t believe she has the aptitude or energy for it. We worked together in a much slower industry, and even there she complained of being overworked. I’ve sent her resources to polish up her resume and links for roles but she’s insisting on texting/long phone calls asking silly questions. Today she wants a resume review over zoom! She comes without having done her homework. How do I tell her I’ve given as much as I can? How do I decline referring?
What’s the freelance world in Asia like? Are freelancers in demand like the US? Or is it totally different over there? And how are remote freelance gigs these days?
Whose home office fits one of these categories?
Has anyone ever slept in their home office/ their firm's office in another city? (for the entire night not just 10 minutes)
Are dual monitors worth it? Currently have one monitor and my laptop on a stand, wondering if having a second monitor and not using laptop screen would be worth $300 more
What are some impactful, remote (WFH) volunteer work I can do? I have some extra time on hand and can only think of education/tutoring.
I wrote a rec letter for one of my legal assistants for law school right before COVID got bad and we all started working remote. Ever since then, this assistant has seemingly been slacking. There’s only so much I can actually see/review without seriously micromanaging her. I’ve spoken to her about her slacking at least twice and both times she just brushed it off. I want to withdraw my rec letter, but I feel like it’s too late. She is leaving at the end of the summer. Should I just let it be?
Next week I ask my leadership about moving out of the city and working remote permanently. There is nothing for me in the city: All my friends have moved away or lost contact in these months, and the only thing keeping me is the job. My last year review was the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve handled remote work well. Any advice for this convo?
Has anyone received an with the expectations to have your home office in City/State 1 then you request to be based in City/State 2? Were you successful?
What type of chair do you guys use for WFH? My back is KILLING ME and I think it’s from my chair. Do you guys have any other tips that make WFH more comfortable?
👋Bilingual digital AD here with motion and illustration chops. Looking for remote gigs or hybrid if in Chicago. Fortune 500 experience and ready to work! Let's chat! Or if you of places could you share em?
Any fishes working 2 full time jobs simultaneously? What’s your experience like? Heard it’s been trending upward due to WFH.
Was a bitch? My coworker routinely asks me how I am doing, what I’m working on, if everything is ok, joking that I’m starting my week on Wednesday because I’ve been remote for two days, etc etc. I find it distracting and invasive so today I told them to please stop asking questions that put me on the spot. Was I a bitch?
I see a lot of posts of overworked people here but anyone underworked too now that we are remote? Anyone working just 2/3 hours a day and still getting great feedback?
Looking for an ergonomic desk chair. Any recommendations? Has anybody heard of the "Capisco Chair by HÅG"?
Had a minor back injury (should heal on its own) but I don’t think sitting in an office chair all day is helping. Any ideas to make it more bearable?
Any tips on reducing/hiding cords in your home office? As you can see current set up the cords are bugging me. Fiancé loves the desk in the middle of the room.
How are you dealing with WFH and small children? I either need to cut my workload or completely disregard my children. I don’t want to be put in the mummy track. This virus is like the mummy trap.
Just got laid off today. Manager fought really hard for me, but senior threw me under the bus to my career advisor. Oh well on to the next challenge.
My district is experiencing a teacher shortage (shocking). Prep teachers, academic coaches, and teachers on special assignment are being put back into the classroom. Any other districts doing the same?
Got an offer from JPMorgan India(Bangalore) for the role of VP within CCB Data Analytics practice. What is the average Pay? JPMorgan Chase

How do you get billable work? Are you constantly knocking on doors & hunting it down? Or are assignments generally given to you? Do you ever have periods of being unable to find any?
I’m looking for a new role in NYC. I have a feeling more layoffs are imminent at my current agency. Ideally, the role would be client facing, incorporate content creation, pay at least $90K and be located within an office known for its company culture. Reply if you have any leads. Thanks!
How long does it typically take until a recruiter reaches out to schedule an initial phone screening (it they reach out) after you submit your online application at McKinsey? Applied for a general entry level role - experienced hire
I was told by a PPED in NY today that the reasons I'm not up for partner is needing to lose weight, not being female or a diversity candidate, and not having the right family image (married with kids)
Seriously hoping these numbers will get better https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-09/dimon-calls-jpmorgan-a-black-diversity-leader-numbers-disagree
Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones? https://blog.shrm.org/blog/9-interesting-interview-questions-that-actually-reveal-a-lot-about-candidat
Im presenting two cases for an interview tomorrow and want to leave questions for the end to manage time. Will that be seen as rigid?
Is it reasonable to be expected to spend 20-30 non-billable hours a month checking your paralegal’s work? (i.e. summarizing hundreds of records and bills). The partner said he “didn’t use paralegals” at his previous firm and eating the time is an “investment in yourself.” Is this common?
I get nervous when I have to communicate project status in huge conference calls. Any tips?
Does having gaps on your resume automatically take you out the running for FAANG companies..
Are beards appropriate in big law in the US while interviewing and/or working as an associate? Could it just depend on the person interviewing you? From what I’ve seen in Europe, they’re tolerated even in old school environments. Thank you!
Left public accounting as an Audit Manager to take a Controller position in private. Realizing I don’t want to get stuck in a Controller position LT and would like to possibly be in FP&A if I stayed in private. Have always had an interest in FDD and I am considering leaving private for FDD. Any thoughts on this potential move & if it would improve my chances of getting into FP&A later on?
