Tech can definitely be cushy, but breaking in takes effort! Since you're studying CS, start building projects, contribute to open source, and network like crazy. Helpdesk or IT support can be a good first step from retail. Also, leverage any customer service skills.. tech companies love problem-solvers!
Yes I was thinking of doing something with network security. Working for a big tech company is the dream. I read a lot about the benefits and I can only dream.
I'm not sure working in tech is cushy and comfortable, some of the people I know in it are pretty stressed a lot of the time. But it's more interesting work than a lot of things, that's for sure. Common sense tells us we'll be needing cybersecurity experts.
I’m sure it is stressful but so is working in retail. My managers are always stressed and it passes down to us. I feel like most tech jobs are the way to go.
Actually, if I was ever going to change careers, this is what I would do.
I only have a year or so left with school and I will be trying to make the switch for sure.
