Cambridge and Somerville are fun.
Seaport is fun for younger folks now. Used to be a fair number of families pre-COVID, but by mid 2020 most had moved out and been replaced by much younger, single people.
Rising Star
Red line is your best bet for south station. “South” of south station would include Broadway, Andrew for t stops in southie - best for recent grads who still want to party and don’t mind neighbors screaming until 3 am. Street parking is available, but can be tough to find. Quincy is further south but I’d avoid being that far from the city. “North” of south station that also has parking would probably start in Central square and up - so, as D1 said Cambridge and Somerville. More laid back, potentially easier street parking. But you’ll probably find yourself spending more time in the squares in those towns than venturing into Boston proper.
Budget?
Ideally a one bedroom under 2600 but i can be flexible
I'd definitely say Somerville or Quincy....a car in the city is Spendy!
I live at the West Square apartments and they’ve been good. It’s a 10 minute walk to the Broadway T stop, 10 to the Seaport, 15 to south station, and 30-45 to go just about anywhere else in the city. Plenty of off street parking but also a garage in the building for $200 a month. If you like going out, there’s a lot of places you can walk to. Message me if you want any more info.
What’s your budget? If you’re ~ 3k/month you could get a studio in seaport. If you’re budget is under 2k/month you’ll probably need roommates in Boston or Cambridge.
Somewhere in between. Ideally around 2,600. I am open to a 2 bedroom w/ a roommate as well if it was the right location. Just trying to find what that location may be for me.
Davis square in Somerville has a lot going on and is on the red line
Davis square is awesome!
Where are you moving from?
Parking in seaport is ~350-500/month depending on which apartment you are at. There’s essentially no street parking so don’t consider that. The parking issue probably pushes you out of seaport unless you have a roommate. Garage parking in Cambridge and Boston in general is ~250-350/month. Add in another ~200 for utilities so your true rent budget is a little over 2k. I’m not sure what street parking costs, but it is an option if you move to Alston or Somerville. Since you want a city experience you definitely want to be close to a T stop. If you have a roommate you could probably live anywhere in the city if you maxed your budget. There’s endless apartment in the 3500-4500 range. If you don’t have a roommate you’re gonna need to adjust your expectations or flex the budget up to cover parking and utilities.
No issues w street parking in the South end the 5 years I lived there - except for the expected minor scratches and dings etc that happen when you street park. Given that, I had a shitty car so didn’t care.
