Yes! And candidly, the lower tiered the law school, the worse they are. The biggest problems I see: 1. they truly think they have the same importance, value as an attorney with 20+ years; 2. their ageism & sexism towards older women Partners ( for them, women over 35!) is epically astounding; 3. they would rather spend more (billable) time looking for the shortcut, often low level AI to do a task and yet, still turn in poor work (again, this latter is probably a low quality law school thing). All of the ones I’ve seen in my group are far more trouble than they are worth: it’s choosing between arrogance or incompetence.
Older (ha) woman partner here. It’s not relegated to lower tier law schools. I had a summer clerk from a T1 school. Gave him a simple research question that I was pretty sure I knew the answer to, but wanted to confirm. He Googled it, and copy pasted me the first write-up arrive he found. Unfortunately, he deleted steps 7.5-9. When I asked him to review and send to me when he was sure it was final, he didn’t bother to proof. It was the final straw for me.
Per LinkedIn he was just hired as a staff attorney at an AM200. Bar results aren’t out yet, so not sure how he’s claiming to be an attorney, but that’s their issue.
I have one in my office. The attorney is on the high end of Gen Z and low end of Millenial - whatever that squishy middle is. There are odd expectations and entitlement. Wondering why s/he doesn't have the same earning potential, bonus, challenging assignments, etc. I've explained more than once what is required for advancement both in terms of salary and the partner track. Distinct lack of follow through.
I've gotten to the point where I've thrown my hands up. It's not my career...
