Weather and water+mountains add about 30% rent penatly. Vancouver a bunch of small towns each with its own brand of racism and isolationism. If you decide to move you have two choices - move to a town of your own enthinicty or live downtown.
Unless ofcourse you have illicit sources of income and want to buy up realestate to launder money. Then noone beats vancouver. Welcome!
I moved from Toronto two years ago and it’s not just housing that’s expensive, the cost of living overall is straight up highway robbery.
That being said if you have the income by all means enjoy the nature all you want. I moved here to be here with my partner (we were long distance and I had to make the sacrifice) but I still miss the hustle and bustle of the east coast every day. But of course if it’s the nature you’re after, then by all means you will have a good time.
PS, I will say that Montréal has the best food scene in the entire country
If you love to ski or plan to learn how, it's amazing!
Yes, I moved from Montreal to Vancouver about a year ago and I absolutely love it here. It was a big adjustment coming from a major city to one that was much smaller, but it was worth it for the natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle. Housing is definitely much more expensive but there are plenty of affordable options if you look hard enough. Good luck with your move next year - I'm sure you'll love it here!
Vancouver has close proximity to nature, with mountains, forests, and beaches. In contrast, Montreal has a colder and more distinct climate, with a rich cultural history and a diverse urban landscape. Those are the biggest contrasts I've seen in environment
