I think it’s ok to grade with bias. A low students who works really hard verses a smart student that gives their minimum. They deserve to be graded for their ability.
NJES1, no, of course I don’t do only what the parent tells me. Come on. I’ve been doing this a long time. Would you like me to list all the things I do and/or all the other folks I talk to when I see a kid is having a hard time? We could be here a very, very long time…
I was simply giving an example.
I had 125 students. I never looked at names until I put the grades in. Later in the year, I could tell the work of some students good or bad. Doesn’t change where they’re at academically unless you think you had or will have biases.

I guess this why some teachers use rubrics. They do fine-tune the expectations
Of course! It is impossible to be objective when grading a student’s work according to how you feel about them personally! Further, it is impossible to avoid bias according to our own agency when writing or reading someone’s work. I would always rather grade work without knowing who the student is. It levels the playing field, in my opinion.

I guess I would need to be careful when grading assignments without the names, because if IEPs. Some students have to be graded differently.
