Career has stalled over the past 3 yrs and unclear why, or how to fix it. Fired from MBB as an experienced manager. Up til then I was a rockstar - rave reviews, early promos, etc. (Cont.)
Stay humble Strategy brothers and sisters. I’m covering a tech manager that has gone on leave and if I’m not fired by the end of the week it will be a miracle. BS isn’t helping. I need to know things😱
I’m gonna cry. In the beginning of the SIP my firm let some people go, my manager got fired because she did something stupid, and now a person on my team has quit without notice and I’m stuck
How do layoffs work if we’re all working remotely? For example: Does the direct manager and someone from HR do it? Does your computer stop working immediately? Do they ask you to mail your computer and ID badge in? Is it done via videoconference?
My wife is pregnant. Do the general courtesies of telling your manager/work beginning of 3rd trimester still apply during covid/work from home? Her industry has been hit hard and her job has been doing furloughs and layoffs. We can get pretty far without telling due to WFH but don’t want to put her boss in a bad position either.
If you knew your close coworkers were going to be included in layoffs, would you tell them? My manager gave me a heads up, in confidence, to assure me that I was safe, and I’d be betraying her trust.
Have we covered this yet? Seems like there is some substance to the case, not given job back and fired shortly after complaining to HR https://www.google.com/amp/s/goingconcern.com/deloitte-sued-by-ex-manager-for-discrimination-over-smoke-and-mirrors-family-leave-policy/amp/
I was laid off from D last week but had already been in the process of interviewing at a new company. Am I required to tell the hiring manager and recruiter of this company the update that i was laid off or is it suggested that i wait until an offer is extended?
Went to HR to complain about horrible manager. Will I get fired or let go? I was just speaking up for myself.
Something’s been weighing on my mind. I messed up in a steering committee & tripped infront of the Sr. Client Stakeholders. I made a few other mistakes and was rolled off by my manager (SM) b/c I sucked and it was a higher burn engagement he needed a stronger BA. Now I find out he might’ve been laid off and I can’t help but to think it was my fault. We never really talked after this engagement but I feel like it’s my clumsiness that him fired and it makes me feel guilty and give a me anxiety.
Curious how layoffs have been initiated at other agencies...I’ve heard they’ve been happening on zoom, is a mysterious invite just put in your calendar? Did you get a call from your manager?
Team was laid off. I was moved to a different service line. New service line manager salary is 10-20% higher than my current salary. No performance based raises this year at my firm. My utilization is low as I’m spending time getting caught up. Glad to still have a job but should I bring up a salary adjustment? Current plan is to wait until my utilization is on par with the rest of the team.
Any tips on how to manage ‘upwards’ in a subtle way? Post-layoffs (round 1?), three layers of management got removed between me and the SVP, who is now my direct line manager. (CONT)
Just received a calendar invite for a check in with my manager who doesn’t normally do check ins. Recently been messing up and think I’m being fired and am having major anxiety.
Assuming this causes a recession like in 2008, and many people get laid off, how long to take to find another similar paying job? I’m currently a strat manager in FS. Scared for job.
Is it ok to ask your manager if you’re about to be fired or if you should be looking for a new role?
Agency laid off all producers, is now having BA produce. BA texts laid off employees for vendor recs. 🙄 (the eye roll is at the agency, not the BA manager who didn’t sign up for this...)
With all that's happened with layoffs, anyone else here worried about not being able to pay student loans? I feel screwed and hesitate to bring this up with my manager (not the easiest to talk to 😅). Layoffs haven't happened yet at the K, but I'm sure they're around the corner.
For those that got laid off, specifically on the manager level, how long did it take for you to find another role you were satisfied with? I have about 5 months with savings and unemployment.
Has anyone come back from being put on a PiP? My colleague just got one and is freaking out - her manager is overallocated like crazy, the other two media planners were laid off, and she’s the only one left standing. Her boss says she’s making too many mistakes - but they’re so short staffed. Any hope, or should she start looking now?
Hi Everyone, this isn’t meant to b a flex just posting in case some1 needs to hear this. Back in Feb I was fired from a job I HATED. I moved across country for it & was miserable, they paid for my moving expenses so I felt trapped. I found a new job in Mar & have never been happier. My manager & team are incredible! Moral of the story, I know a lot of you have recently been let go - sometimes the worst things happen for the better. I was so scared I was a failure, but it’s gunna be ok 😊
Ex-Deloitte (and other) consultants who got laid off: If your experience has been in strategy or payments, my firm is still hiring. We have positions open at Director, Manager, SC and juniors levels.
Suggestions on what to do on the first day/week after being laid off? Look for the next job? Yesterday I got one of those vague meetings and my PPMD showed up today with the Talent Manager.
Does anybody have advice on how to tell your manager you’re overwhelmed and ask for help? Since the big layoff, I am working like CRAZY and I’m going to LOSE IT
About to get rolled off a project, manager thinks I’m underperforming. Has anyone gotten rolled off before and bounced back or do you usually get fired shortly after? This is the first time
How to say no to a manager when you disagree about something that affects your long term performance? Don’t want to get fired but plainly the answer is no.
I just got laid off. I currently work as an IT program manager. I'm looking to transition from industry to consulting where I can leverage my experience to solve complex client problems. I'd appreciate referrals!
Can a Senior Manager who otherwise has a good reputation, get fired for bullying? If not, will this person still make it to partner? There seems to be a lack of transparency in firms around this
Know this is single consultants bowl but need relationship advice - my SO was fired from their job 6 months ago (I can first hand say the manager was a terrible person and has a history of doing...
I got called back from furlough last week and I feel lucky as hell. Today my manager told me that we officially laid off our social media manager, as well as 4 people from the art department. The “V line recovery” narrative is a myth
The worst part of working overtime right after the longest tax season of your life is your spouse getting pissed at you for working. I’m a tax manager who has been the acting tax Director since my firm fired our last Director the week before Christmas. Work has been hell for the last 7 months and now on top of everything else, I’m in charge of payroll (we fired our payroll department in January but still kept like 25 clients for fun) and returns are due Friday. I’m depressed and exhausted.
Was recently laid off and now looking to make the move to NYC. What’s the salary range for a marketing manager/analytics manager? I have 4 years of experience in the industry.
I am 30 and just got promoted to Senior manager. I think I am doing well but I feel I am driven more by pessimism, imposter syndrome, and fear of getting fired as opposed to a positive mindset and the desire to thrive in my career. I feel like I am suffering from some sort of a mental issue but wanted to throw it out here and get some advice to deal with this from the fishbowl fam as opposed to going to therapy. Thanks in advance for your responses!
Offered role with client for same amount of money but one level higher. Trying to figure out if Worth taking it. It’s my dream role but the pay is the same ( consultant to manager role). Reasons to leave D, work life balance, layoffs scare me, current client has good culture/ work to life balance is 9-5. Is it common to get offers from clients? If so maybe I can wait and get better offer.
To our Manager of Production, Head of Accounts noted the extreme stress being put on the production dept due to layoffs and resignations and suggested our team needed more support. Manager simply replied “let them walk.”
Went to HR to complain about horrible manager. Will I get fired or let go? I was just speaking up for myself.
We’re hiring a freelance brand manager. This is perfect for someone with 2-4 years experience, reporting to a Brand Supe. I’d love to give preference reviewing resumes & applications to someone laid off recently due to C19. It’s remote for now, but should be someone who would like someday to be in the Bay Area, and does not require visa sponsorship. Please share with your network! Joanna.Serna@argonautinc.com
Honestly how hard is it to get fired in public accounting. I feel like i struggle sometimes and I can’t complete my tasks in a timely manner. Definitely can see my annoyances on my manager face.
Working my first freelance gig and contract is up in a couple weeks. Was hired under “possible extension or full time hire.” Obviously the full time won’t happen but tips on asking about extension? It seems as if they need me (I’m a subject matter expert) but I started as the shelter in place began and it’s been hard to form relationships with client work changes, business changes, layoffs, etc. Should I email my manager or is a call better? Would appreciate your advice!
Is it normal to be completely ghosted by former coworkers after layoffs? Calls, texts, emails ignored (other than ones having to do with the admin aspects). I’m paranoid HR told people to not respond.
Did you create this new Indeed campaign? Just so you know: in the history of the world nobody has ever arrived at their first day of work carrying a random box that looks like they've been fired.
Sometimes all you have to do to feel better is to get out of the front door. To all of the people who were laid off, remember that. One more day!
Is it common to get fired (performance related) without seeing it coming? I'd assume there would be advance warning/discussions with managers and leads, but just curious. I always feel like I'm...
As opposed to forcing layoffs, could a firm just request their employees to go on sabbatical for reduced pay?
Long story short: I work for a small healthcare consulting firm. Since COVID, I was going to the office once a week, every Wednesday. Today, I have put on my 2 weeks because I accepted an offer from a big 4. During my last 2 weeks, I had planned to see my family for the first week, and go to the office on my final week. Also today, my boss asks me to come in the office everyday next week. Should I say I don’t feel comfortable and just don’t go?What’s the worst it happen? Get fired lol
Got a great offer at another consulting firm but worried about prospect of getting laid off after joining given current climate. Thoughts?
So I've read quite a few comments regarding race based discrimination in the layoff process at EY and Deloitte. This can't possibly be true though right?
At ACN, who actually tells you you are getting laid off? HR, your CC, or Partner or a combo? Just checking for a friend of mine.
Conversations or expectation re-sets with clients around the “reality of 2020”? Ie: Pandemic, deaths, quarantine, work from home, remote school learning, layoffs, economy, isolation, politics, police brutality, civil rights protests, forest fires, riots, police state tactics, RBG, plus all the other “normal” bad things. It feels like the elephant in the room.
Sooooo... I guess I'm outing myself again by posting this, but in light of all the recent layoff drama, I wrote a hopefully-motivational post for those who have been let go: http://www.happyhealthydeb.com/ponder/2016/6/26/the-truth-about-being-laid-off (continued)
Has anyone been successful in negotiating more severance? I’ve been offered a month, but I don’t think I can survive just on it. Only have 2 months saved up.
How many of you are still unemployed from last year lay offs? Interested to learn more about folks who were laid off and what they are doing.
Hello 🐠, I’m building a site where you can find travel recommendations from your friends and family! It seems like I’m not the only one who asks around for word of mouth suggestions (looking at the posts on this bowl 🙂). With all of the travelling that we do (pre/post covid) I know you all have great recommendations from personal, flex, and work travel. It’ll be launching soon so please sign up if sounds like something you’d use - I’d also love to get your thoughts! www.travoshare.com
Starting project in Orlando next week. Looking forward to abusing my AMEX and dignity at Rainforest Cafe.
I have a new manager working with me who is surprisingly not great at the role. We’re in industry and she’s worked at the company for a long time but in a different capacity. (Cont)
For those who got laid off/ left how long did it take for you to receive your Contribution back from the ESP?
Has anyone used preplounge to get geared up for case interviews? Have a few coming up and need a refresher. Any insight would be helpful.
Contemplating moving from Chicago to the Bay Area. Household TC is ~375k. We have a toddler as well. Both our jobs would allow us to relocate at the same salary. Wanted to get advise on what to expect in terms of change in standard of living (3 bed /2 bath unit), transportation (we don’t own a car) and daycare expenses from people who have done a similar move.
If I have someone who is interested in early retirement at my company, outside of COBRA (which is only 18 months), what benefits are available for them. Are there Medical/prescription/dental/vision/etc. coverages individuals can opt into? What are the options? Low-high cost options please.
Just got laid off from my job due to restructuring... as an Aussie worker in NYC on an E3 visa being laid off for the first time, im lost...any leads and advice is absolutely appreciated
New Yorkers: I was recently laid off and just went though the hell that is “everything unemployment” related. I wrote a cheat sheet on all I learned (it’s hell) to hopefully spare future victims.
3 people were fired this week, and I've heard of 5 people leaving my group this week. Stuff is getting crazy...
Generally, how do Accenture managers compare in terms of compensation, talent and responsibility to Pwc? How common do managers cross over into the SM role?
