My awesome co-worker recently got instant laid off by a new manager who told her she was incompetent when she raised her clinical stress due to excessive workload. Today I’ve seen he’s promoted 2 women in the team. She feels hurt and embarrassed. Is this a classic strategy of new managers? Do a crappy deed and cover it up with some good news?
Offer help. I have 3 years in consulting and make 140k. I was laid off from ACN Strategy as an analyst and able to sell myself hard to another company. ACN wants me back, and will match my salary, but I am also getting offers from Firms for around 210 from different “boutique” consultancy and some T2. Should I go back to ACN, make manager and look for an exit? Should I join Deloitte Strategy as a SC make manager and exit? Should I go to one of the boutique as a manager for 210 base?
Help! Just met with the client manager telling me that I am an underperformer while I've had a non stop busy season since March as an A1, went on to say that this week will be to review if I am kept on the client. Am I on the verge of being fired? I'm thinking of quitting.
I'm feeling a lot of anger towards my manager (now he's acting normal but there were moments where he was condescending/dismissive/mocked my and others work/arrogant/said stuff was "wrong" constantly/belittling the difficulty of tasks etc. in the past project). Maybe it is "standard chewing out" but it bothered me a lot. So much that I find myself still getting all fired up inside thinking about it... Idk how to let go of this :/ Thoughts?
Any companies looking for experienced hire Planning/Supply Chain professional with >10yoe in industry? An old coworker was laid off from a retailer, and was an excellent Planning Manager when I worked with her.
Hi, there! I'm working in Eastern Europ.office in advisory, DD for 0.5 year. Before was an auditor in other big-4.Since i began, i haven't had any projects in DD till last month. Asked projects in valuation and occasionally was in restructuring. Complained that tasks were not that complicated. On 0.5 year i made angry my perform.manager with request to change specialization for valuation. 1) how to keep good relationships with PM? 2) i failed cfa lev1 and don't know how tell to keep good face.Any advice? 3) can I be fired for fluidity?)
If you give your project/manager 1-2 months notice that you’re leaving to go to school (as a courtesy) and the firm decides to cut the cord sooner and forces you out, do you get severance?
Currently with a Salesforce boutique prod and consulting firm as a Manager and make around $135k base with 5% bonus. Very good WLB and loyalty perks. 0% Travel. No layoffs at all. I got an offer from Deloitte for a Sr Consultant position with the base of 145k. Yet to negotiate. I have total 7 yoe. Is this the right move considering just $10k increase in pay? How much Deloitte brand matters for exit ops? I prefer good WLB if not great and prefer travel to be under 50%
i just had an excellent review with my supervisors. we are aligned i am ready to be promoted. i will be moving from project manager to senior project manager. the catch; my company has laid off 75% of its staff, and cut our salaries by 25%. timing is unclear, since we work in the live entertainment space. what is fair to ask for? i have 7 years work force experience, am the only one in my position, touch every creative deliverable the agency makes, and updated and streamlined 10+ processes.
Have offers from A&M PEPI practice. Although have heard mixed opinions here ! People have mentioned that A&M has a great comp and at manager level one can make between 250-350k, on the other hand some people have mentioned that it is extremely difficult to make over 250k because utilization stays close to 60%. I also heard that the culture is cutthroat and one bad project can get you fired. They also mentioned that you are expected to work weekends. How true are these statements?
If I need Friday 4-5pm to go to a doctor's appointment, do I need to set a meeting invite to my manager in order not to be fired?
I need help: In consulting interviews, is it a death sentence to have been part of the COVID-related layoffs at a Big 4 strategy arm? I have now been rejected from two other T2 strategy firms, and apparently the feedback is that “I have great experience” but they “are not moving forward with my candidacy”. I’m getting beaten down here. I have 10 years consulting experience, 7 at health plans, 5 in strategy, and 3 as a manager. I know my industry, function, and story. What am I missing?
I don’t agree with her perspective here. However, she definitely fired some shots at Jeremy Grantham and Jeffrey Gundlach. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/stocks-arent-in-a-bubble-but-heres-what-is-according-to-fund-manager-ark-invests-cathie-wood-11612958113
Have an upcoming interview with Coinbase for the role of program manager customer experience. Any tips on questions or suggestions to prep for this interview? Really need to crack this as I have been laid off from my current company.
How are ways you manage to handle the stress of: - wanting to always perform at 100% - be competitive against others at your level - always prove to your manager and above that you are going above and beyond. - essentially trying not to get fired?
I spent almost 20 years at agencies. I got laid off last year and took a consulting role at the manager level in Big Tech. I’m paid enough to be comfortable and have little stress because I’m doing a job that’s easy for me, but can’t shake that I’m settling or it may set me back later if I decide to go for long term gigs. Am I crazy? Should I just enjoy not being stressed for the first time in my life for longer than a few months?
Is anyone here constantly worried about getting laid off? I didn’t get moved to my next level (SA1 > SA2 > SA3 before manager) last review cycle (I was 6 months in the firm). Now I’m always constantly worried I’m going to get laid off. Overall get along w people at my level up to manager, but cannot get along with most partners and some directors. I’ve had good reviews from the former, and mixed reviews from the latter. Wondering if this is anxiety or intuition.
Curious, is it common practice to advise managers *not* to remain in correspondence with a recently terminated employee? An employee was just fired *without* cause (headcount reduction) and has been trying to contact his former manager to stay in touch, etc. The manager has not responded to the employee yet.
If a manager told you they were going to do everything they could to get you fired next round of performance reviews because he doesn’t like you, How would you handle this? Reporting to HR will probably just get me fired sooner. Should I quit and find a new job? I like working here. Do I tough it out and hope it was a verbal slip.?
When you send a thank you email to the hiring manager then found out they just got fired...
2020 career season finale: I finally got offer to strategy firm; my manager made team eat time got fired during height of COVID in June. Wanted to share my speck of good news with the fam!
Stay humble Strategy brothers and sisters. I’m covering a tech manager that has gone on leave and if I’m not fired by the end of the week it will be a miracle. BS isn’t helping. I need to know things😱
I don’t belong in my job. I didn’t mind it when I joined in January and was interacting but as we’ve been work from home longer, the less motivation I have. I don’t enjoy the work but I’ve gotten unlucky with my teams too, and can’t remember the last time my manager praised me without a critique. Maybe I’m just bad at my job. At this point I just am doing the bare minimum to not get fired. What do I do? Should I look for a job that I actually would enjoy doing or stick it out?
How badly do you have to screw up at a big 4 as a manager to be fired? I've heard of pips at staff/senior level. Would you get put on one at a manager level first or just get fired?
How are intense are background checks at b4? Interviewing and worried that if I do get an offer firm will find out I put I’m a manager when my technical title was associate. I was just laid off from a work at a family office where there are 2 of us on the “finance team” They were weird about titles and I just graduated w my mba so I’m trying for an SA position
LA: after months of layoffs and salary reductions, we are back! Looking to hire a rockstar LA-based Project Manager at our small independent agency. Projects vary from photoshoots to retail to branding/strategy. Looking for mid to senior level. Diverse candidates encouraged to apply! PM me for details.
Anyone have to deal with office drama? My office manager is a pain in the butt to deal with and causes unnecessary drama. Sometimes it gets to the partners. If its about me I like to speak up but I worry that I’ll get fired for speaking up.
How to move into marketing? Did “marketing consulting” for 3 years then moved into S&O cuz I couldn’t get a real marketing job but then got laid off. Applying to marketing PMO/ops/specialist/manager and PMM roles but get zero bites. Getting super depressed thinking I’ll have to take yet another job I don’t really like in S&O as I’m not finding new jobs to apply to outside of FAANG which get a million applicants (I have referrals) and someone will def have perfect exp. given all the lay offs
Manager pulls me onto a proj with a role description I’m excited about because it’s something I’m interested in and have a passion for. The day I start he puts me in a PMO role and when I say this isn’t what I signed up for he says yeah client needs shift sometimes. I patiently stay on for a couple months then when another engagement opens up I ask to be released and he oks it but then wrecks my scatter plot. How is this even legal? Bout to get fired over petty behavior
Just joined a new consulting firm (after being laid off from the last one due to “poor performance”), and I’m being staffed conditionally on my first project. Manager has so far has given me pretty light / easy PMO work and asked me to make a few slides here and there, but generally it’s work below the level I was hired for. I’m in the post-MBA role, so want to make sure I’m meeting those expectations early on. Any advice on how to go about this and get more responsibility?
Laid off in August. Was making $160k base as Senior Consultant. Was up for manager. New offer as corp strat manager making $135k. 7 YOE. Should I keep looking?
Was laid off by EY few weeks back, had 60 Days to find an employer and get them to apply H1B for me. Subtracting the h1b app time, roughly had 5 wks to land an offer in this economy. Landed a consulting offer and an offer from a small Bay Area Data firm for a TechCloud Product Manager (choosing this) I was able to exit consulting in 5 weeks, something I was trying for over 1.5 years. What worked? Going away from the FAANG mindset, look at sm/mid sized firms and being open!
I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. Am I overreacting?
Everyone! I need your help! I was laid off due to a reduction in force certainty impacted by COVID-19! I am based in Atlanta, Georgia and I am currently seeking Business Analysts, Project Manager, Scrum Master, or Product Manager opportunities. Please, any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Accounting Fam - Started looking for a job when my company started going south due to COVID about 2 months ago. I’ve been very blessed to have survived 2 rounds of layoffs. Got an offer today that is a 15% increase in base pay. Company is stable and their leading in their field. Should I feel guilty for wanting to leave? I’m thankful my manager has kept me safe so far, and I feel like I owe her, specially since our team is short-staffed now. Advice and anecdotes welcome.
How do you guys deal with burnout? This job was amazing when I started and the pay is good, but I feel like I’m being ground down a little more every day. I’ve been applying to AE jobs elsewhere but I’m competing with everyone who’s been laid off at this point I’m happy to get a rejection instead of being ghosted by the hiring manager. Any tips on getting out of this mindset? I feel trapped.
Laid off a month back with no job currently - if I go and talk to the leasing manager to reduce rent, can he think in other direction instead and ask to leave the apartments to avoid any default? Just trying to get a sense how things work in US since am a foreign national. Thank you!
What’s the difference between exiting at C vs M (or SC)? I’m interviewing for a Product Manager role that would net at least a 20% salary increase. At the same time, I’m having second thoughts about leaving consulting given the current trend of layoffs.
We use Deloitte India for a number of parts of our delivery. Recently I have seen some unethical practices that violate labor laws and do not align with Deloitte principles. My manager says it isn’t my problem as they are a vendor but I can’t help thinking I have an ethical responsibility to do something. Any advice as to how to approach this without being fired?
Who works at Accenture and can connect me with the hiring manager for the Federal - Threat Analyst Lead position (job 00869165)? Been laid off from COVID but this opportunity perfectly matches my skill set and experience.
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Heard through the grapevine. Bunch of analysts got fired for getting too drunk at DU and passed out in the bushes. Can anyone confirm or deny?
When someone gets fired/laid off but they keep their previous title/agency on LinkedIn, does anyone ever tell them to change it?
How is the business going for all you consultants? Are your companies getting new projects? Any layoffs ?
Lots of farewell emails this week at PwC. People getting laid off? Has anyone heard anything about it?
At Deloitte now. laid off last year while on medical leave. Landed a new job with the help of a senior mentor and vouched for me not knowing my medical limitations. I just had to take sick leave again on the first project out of the gate. Dr is recommending 40 hours a week which will not fit the requirements of my director role. I feel like I need to switch roles to a non client facing role to be realistic in my health limitations. How do I make the switch and have the convo with w my mentor?
PWC / Strategy& fish - saw a post mentioning layoffs that included recent hires. Is it true? Which verticals are most affected? Starting at S& in a few months...
I was laid off from my job awhile back and I have a gap through temp jobs I was doing. How should I display this on my resume? Leave the gap or say contractor or temp.
Anyone here from Deloitte who has been laid off or personally knows someone who did, and can give an overview of the process (who contacts you and how, what if you are staffed, what about GSAPers)
Layoffs at Accenture?
What happens if you’re an associate and you’re fired for “performance” suddenly. You had a performance review the week before and their was no talk of this. How do you perceive this?
What other firms are experiencing FS layoffs? Sounds like majority PwC based on previous posts.
Can someone explain the difference between being counseled out and being fired? With an emphasis on why counsel someone out but not fire them, and vice versa.
hey all, i’m 3 years into my career. some decent work produced, some awards (mostly student). after getting laid off last fall and many many applications and emails sent, I’ve decided to spend time and money on a creative PR stunt to get my dream agencies’ attention. I’ve decided I don’t want to settle any longer, and I’m ready to make the jump to the elite. so people that have made it to their dream agencies: when did it happen for you, what made it happen, and was it everything you hoped for?
Layoffs are coming
Just got laid off! What personal documents should I grab from my work laptop? What else should I remember to do? Sorry mind is a bit of a blur.
You thought the last rounds of layoffs were bad? With continued political instability / uncertainty under Drumpf, companies will stop or slow spending on consulting and a bunch of us will get fired...
Hi All, I'm 5+ experienced in IBM DataPower, secondary skills include working on WAS, MQ, Jboss, Tomcat - shell scripting to automate basic stuff. Holds certification in AWS Cloud Practitioner. Knowledge of DevOps tools like Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, GIT, SonarQube. Please let me know of any opportunities
I’ve been on the bench at EY for a month. How do I get on a project? My experience counselor doesn’t respond to my emails 🤦🏼♂️
Any post-MBAs from Deloitte recently laid off that were expecting GSAP tuition reimbursement? If so, did you receive any?
Is anyone’s school system taking any of the lessons learned since last March about education and changing how they do business? Our county is reverting to the pre-pandemic factory model of education. I thought we might have some significant changes in education, but sadly it is business as usual- 7 classes of 25-35 students a day.
I have over $1k in United vouchers that will expire at the end of the year. Platinum Elite. Worth calling to see if I can get expirations extended? Gonna be hard to travel at all this year..
Last day in Deloitte: 14th June. First day in next company: 24th June. Is it an issue from H1B perspective given I will be unemployed for a week?
Hey! Starting a new role in September and will need extension/COE. If it processes sooner than expected I.e. in August, can I take leave from my current employer for a couple weeks before starting new job? Need a break but want to remain in status… was hoping to take a month of between starting the new job. Any thoughts would be helpful thanks 😊
What is the average salary for senior pm in Los Angeles? It’s for a tech company (not startup). Thank you!!
Clinically depressed (functioning) and in mourning over the loss of a family member. If not for wfh, I would have had to take a sabbatical. Wild to think that the performative-but-not-performance stuff (am I cute and polished in the office at 8.45am on the dot?) could dictate our trajectories in the before times. Grateful for the executional focus of wfh that allows me to be a crying unshowered mess between mtgs without damaging my career.
Just found out I passed on-sites (non-tech role) and am invited back for the final interview this week plus a prep call tomorrow with recruiters (along with other candidates). Can anyone tell me what type of questions are typically asked during the final stage? My on-sites were primarily GCA/hypotheticals and questions about my background, so curious and eager to know what to expect during this final round so I can have more time to prep tonight prior to the prep call tomorrow. TYIA!
How do I ask for a salary increase when I’ve worked for less than a year? New incoming analysts are getting paid about 10k more than my current comp. My mentor who’s a senior manager even knows that my cohort is being underpaid....
Heya all you fun people. I am contemplating moving from Dubai to a more visa friendly country (Canada, Singapore, Australia etc). Need some tips on how to do that. Past experiences would be great. As LinkedIn and direct applications to companies seem to land with the same "get a visa first" answer. In terms of situation *32 with an insead mba *MBB for 7 years *at a local investment fund / developer in strategy *Indian passport
How did you guys roll over former employer 401k to Deloitte? I had fidelity before and it seems like D has Vanguard, although I dont know if I made an account myself or if D opens one for me to roll over into? But confused…
Thinking about getting into valuations. Anyone have any insights about this path in Big4 and in industry? Specifically I’m wondering: 1) what’s the scope of work like at Big 4? (Is the service line split into industry sector groups, or do some groups do Valuation for tangibles and another does intangibles) 2) how are the hours like? Working 9am - 3am consistently? 3) what exit opportunities exit after the Big 4 experience? 4) how does Compensationfor HCOL seniors/ manager look this year?
