Manager pulls me onto a proj with a role description I’m excited about because it’s something I’m interested in and have a passion for. The day I start he puts me in a PMO role and when I say this isn’t what I signed up for he says yeah client needs shift sometimes. I patiently stay on for a couple months then when another engagement opens up I ask to be released and he oks it but then wrecks my scatter plot. How is this even legal? Bout to get fired over petty behavior
Just joined a new consulting firm (after being laid off from the last one due to “poor performance”), and I’m being staffed conditionally on my first project. Manager has so far has given me pretty light / easy PMO work and asked me to make a few slides here and there, but generally it’s work below the level I was hired for. I’m in the post-MBA role, so want to make sure I’m meeting those expectations early on. Any advice on how to go about this and get more responsibility?
Laid off in August. Was making $160k base as Senior Consultant. Was up for manager. New offer as corp strat manager making $135k. 7 YOE. Should I keep looking?
I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. Am I overreacting?
Everyone! I need your help! I was laid off due to a reduction in force certainty impacted by COVID-19! I am based in Atlanta, Georgia and I am currently seeking Business Analysts, Project Manager, Scrum Master, or Product Manager opportunities. Please, any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Accounting Fam - Started looking for a job when my company started going south due to COVID about 2 months ago. I’ve been very blessed to have survived 2 rounds of layoffs. Got an offer today that is a 15% increase in base pay. Company is stable and their leading in their field. Should I feel guilty for wanting to leave? I’m thankful my manager has kept me safe so far, and I feel like I owe her, specially since our team is short-staffed now. Advice and anecdotes welcome.
How do you guys deal with burnout? This job was amazing when I started and the pay is good, but I feel like I’m being ground down a little more every day. I’ve been applying to AE jobs elsewhere but I’m competing with everyone who’s been laid off at this point I’m happy to get a rejection instead of being ghosted by the hiring manager. Any tips on getting out of this mindset? I feel trapped.
Laid off a month back with no job currently - if I go and talk to the leasing manager to reduce rent, can he think in other direction instead and ask to leave the apartments to avoid any default? Just trying to get a sense how things work in US since am a foreign national. Thank you!
What’s the difference between exiting at C vs M (or SC)? I’m interviewing for a Product Manager role that would net at least a 20% salary increase. At the same time, I’m having second thoughts about leaving consulting given the current trend of layoffs.
Any manager level candidates looking for an interview buddy? Got laid off and have a few interviews coming up that I would love some prep for. Let me know if you’re interested. Thinking 2-3 hours a week.
Does staying at a job too long make you less marketable? A CFO who worked at a company for over a decade and was fired because of cut backs was hired for temp work. An accounting manager of 6 years was hired for tech support. How does this happen?
Let go recently, but last day isn't until Friday. Have a call with a hiring manager this week when I'm sure I'll be asked why I'm leaving consulting. Should I mention that I was laid off? That's not why I'm looking (started before), but also don't want to appear as though I'm hiding that information as it would eventually come out when I have to report my dates of employment.
I’m a Financial Services Strategy Manager in NYC who just got laid off. Any connections to strategic planning roles in the NYC area would be very much appreciated. This was a surprise to me as my career counselor said I was in track. Only have two months of severance so would like to find something by end of year.
Asking for a dear friend, please share your insights! My friend is in a senior management role in a small organization. She is the only woman in her 30s in such a senior role, and is currently pregnant. Her company doesn't offer maternity benefits, but she is eligible for PTO and FMLA. She has one manager reporting into her, and her main concerns are: 1. How to communicate that she will be off for 4 months to avoid panic 2. How to protect her job (she won't be fired before her leave, cont...
I just got laid off. I currently work as an IT program manager. I'm looking to transition from industry to consulting where I can leverage my experience to solve complex client problems. I'd appreciate referrals!
Have we covered this yet? Seems like there is some substance to the case, not given job back and fired shortly after complaining to HR https://www.google.com/amp/s/goingconcern.com/deloitte-sued-by-ex-manager-for-discrimination-over-smoke-and-mirrors-family-leave-policy/amp/
My wife is pregnant. Do the general courtesies of telling your manager/work beginning of 3rd trimester still apply during covid/work from home? Her industry has been hit hard and her job has been doing furloughs and layoffs. We can get pretty far without telling due to WFH but don’t want to put her boss in a bad position either.
A group of us had drinks last night with a HC OT manager. Those put on BCLPs were done to save money (as they will not receive AIP) and to already have the next set of layoffs ready. If you are on a BCLP, update your resume ASAP.
Team was laid off. I was moved to a different service line. New service line manager salary is 10-20% higher than my current salary. No performance based raises this year at my firm. My utilization is low as I’m spending time getting caught up. Glad to still have a job but should I bring up a salary adjustment? Current plan is to wait until my utilization is on par with the rest of the team.
Has anyone come back from being put on a PiP? My colleague just got one and is freaking out - her manager is overallocated like crazy, the other two media planners were laid off, and she’s the only one left standing. Her boss says she’s making too many mistakes - but they’re so short staffed. Any hope, or should she start looking now?
To our Manager of Production, Head of Accounts noted the extreme stress being put on the production dept due to layoffs and resignations and suggested our team needed more support. Manager simply replied “let them walk.”
Something’s been weighing on my mind. I messed up in a steering committee & tripped infront of the Sr. Client Stakeholders. I made a few other mistakes and was rolled off by my manager (SM) b/c I sucked and it was a higher burn engagement he needed a stronger BA. Now I find out he might’ve been laid off and I can’t help but to think it was my fault. We never really talked after this engagement but I feel like it’s my clumsiness that him fired and it makes me feel guilty and give a me anxiety.
Offered role with client for same amount of money but one level higher. Trying to figure out if Worth taking it. It’s my dream role but the pay is the same ( consultant to manager role). Reasons to leave D, work life balance, layoffs scare me, current client has good culture/ work to life balance is 9-5. Is it common to get offers from clients? If so maybe I can wait and get better offer.
My recommender got laid off from the firm. What do I say for her description in the application portal? “Ex Senior Manager”? “Ex EY”??
The worst part of working overtime right after the longest tax season of your life is your spouse getting pissed at you for working. I’m a tax manager who has been the acting tax Director since my firm fired our last Director the week before Christmas. Work has been hell for the last 7 months and now on top of everything else, I’m in charge of payroll (we fired our payroll department in January but still kept like 25 clients for fun) and returns are due Friday. I’m depressed and exhausted.
With all that's happened with layoffs, anyone else here worried about not being able to pay student loans? I feel screwed and hesitate to bring this up with my manager (not the easiest to talk to 😅). Layoffs haven't happened yet at the K, but I'm sure they're around the corner.
I was laid off from D last week but had already been in the process of interviewing at a new company. Am I required to tell the hiring manager and recruiter of this company the update that i was laid off or is it suggested that i wait until an offer is extended?
I am in a weird position and need pieces of advice. I was staffed in a project that I hate and on top on that, found out that an ex manager of mine will be in the team as well. The person was fired from the manager’s job and is currently an analyst like me. I had to quit that first job bcs of his abuse and complained to HR about him. I’ m having very bad anxiety issues out of this whole situation. Spoke to leadership about rolling off the project due to lack of interest but they wouldn’t let me
I am 30 and just got promoted to Senior manager. I think I am doing well but I feel I am driven more by pessimism, imposter syndrome, and fear of getting fired as opposed to a positive mindset and the desire to thrive in my career. I feel like I am suffering from some sort of a mental issue but wanted to throw it out here and get some advice to deal with this from the fishbowl fam as opposed to going to therapy. Thanks in advance for your responses!
Our agency just went through layoffs and my original manager was let go. Any advice on how to reach out to someone senior that is now jobless? Trying to be sensitive to his new situation while offering any support/help I can.
Hi Everyone, this isn’t meant to b a flex just posting in case some1 needs to hear this. Back in Feb I was fired from a job I HATED. I moved across country for it & was miserable, they paid for my moving expenses so I felt trapped. I found a new job in Mar & have never been happier. My manager & team are incredible! Moral of the story, I know a lot of you have recently been let go - sometimes the worst things happen for the better. I was so scared I was a failure, but it’s gunna be ok 😊
Does anybody have advice on how to tell your manager you’re overwhelmed and ask for help? Since the big layoff, I am working like CRAZY and I’m going to LOSE IT
Any tips on how to manage ‘upwards’ in a subtle way? Post-layoffs (round 1?), three layers of management got removed between me and the SVP, who is now my direct line manager. (CONT)
How do layoffs work if we’re all working remotely? For example: Does the direct manager and someone from HR do it? Does your computer stop working immediately? Do they ask you to mail your computer and ID badge in? Is it done via videoconference?
Was recently laid off and now looking to make the move to NYC. What’s the salary range for a marketing manager/analytics manager? I have 4 years of experience in the industry.
I got called back from furlough last week and I feel lucky as hell. Today my manager told me that we officially laid off our social media manager, as well as 4 people from the art department. The “V line recovery” narrative is a myth
Career has stalled over the past 3 yrs and unclear why, or how to fix it. Fired from MBB as an experienced manager. Up til then I was a rockstar - rave reviews, early promos, etc. (Cont.)
We’re hiring a freelance brand manager. This is perfect for someone with 2-4 years experience, reporting to a Brand Supe. I’d love to give preference reviewing resumes & applications to someone laid off recently due to C19. It’s remote for now, but should be someone who would like someday to be in the Bay Area, and does not require visa sponsorship. Please share with your network! Joanna.Serna@argonautinc.com
Fyi, in case anyone is considering Away: https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/01/13/away-co-founder-steph-korey-back-as-co-ceo-after-social-media-uproar.html - sounds sketchy (slack messages for this!) and I wonder if people are getting fired internally
Can somebody sum up the Ralph Watson lawsuits please? Four women accused him of inappropriate behavior. He was fired for it. And now he’s suing CP+B AND the four accusers? Is that correct? Yikes.
Does anyone else feel like some of the recent layoffs are premature? Especially with the President’s reopening guidelines today. I feel that agencies could of held on to employees longer.
Anyone need a solid ACD/CW with a ton of digital and shopper experience? Got laid off, along with a ton of other talented folks.
Was looking into roles at West Monroe/WMP but heard they recently had layoffs. Anyone have perspective they can share?
Over the last few months I’ve seen a lot of staff/seniors quit and move to other jobs. Is this normal for this time? I feel like everyone I know is worried about not being laid off but here I see people dropping like flies. What’s going on? Side note if you are in audit and need a job contact me. 😂
Just left audit for Sr accountant job. Is there an expectation to ask for more work in industry? Feeling no since I’m not “charging hours” or submitting a timesheet but feeling way overpaid for doing almost nothing (not complaining just don’t want to be fired).
At ACN, who actually tells you you are getting laid off? HR, your CC, or Partner or a combo? Just checking for a friend of mine.
My coworker just got fired the day after 10/15. She was fired for “poor performance” but we believe she was actually fired for reporting a senior to HR for harassing another tax staff. Cont...
Just started as an analyst and I have no idea what I’m doing. Anxious all the time that I’m just a fraud. Only me and an SM on a project and I just worry I’m going to screw everything up and get fired.
Many firms that reduced salaries seem to be reversing that decision recently. But, is anyone slow and thinking layoffs may happen in the fall? Do you think staff who now are mostly sitting at home not working may be the first to go? Looks like we won’t all be back in the office until spring ..
I just got news that the person who sexually harassed me at my previous job was laid off recently. He was more senior than me and took advantage of me when I didn’t know many people there. Happy day.
Can someone be real with me, what sort of mistake will actually get an associate fired? I need to placate my irrational fear that I could be fired out of the blue for some minor mistake.
The SO and I are planning a drive down from Portland to San Fran. Gonna spend two days in Portland then leisurely drive down over 3 days to San Fran for a wedding. Suggestions on places to visit/stay?
Your birthday is in a few days, you just got your bonus, are happy with your savings/retirement contribs, and have disposable income. What do you buy yourself for a birthday gift?
ORD >> LGA, stuck on Tarmac in Chicago. No air, swede with terrible body odor next to me... All I can think is "thank god I'm not flying into EWR"
For those that don’t live with their SO, do you still see them if you’re getting sick/are sick? This is our last weekend together until NYE but I don’t feel too hot but want to see them 😖
Anyone have insight into Guidehouses Energy Sustainability and Infrastructure sector? WLB, project opps, culture?
Got an offer from Deloitte for SC for a few thousand more than what I asked for. I would like a signing bonus, what are some ways to ask for that? PTO & 401k aren’t as great as what I have now.
Feel sick and ill, throat swollen but haven't really left house since Feb (other than getting deliveries), don't have much appetite, only had an apple pie today but still not hungry, when is the end..
Ever get back to the hotel room and just want to cry but need to get work done? So you earmark crying for later.
Whats a fair number of mariott points to request as compensation for a non functioning air conditioning system in your room?
