People are afraid of what they don't understand.
We're almost there:
- divergent alignment between weaponized weak but capable agents
- extensive psyops use of agents by political groups
- uncertainty in career progression for any job that can be done at a computer
Unclear but clearly possible:
- uncertainty in career progression for general manual labor
- economic turmoil on grandiose scale, likely with widespread civil unrest
- social systems upheaval outside politics, in a bad way
Borderline scifi but bizarrely possible:
- fast takeoff with a "strange" reward function
Not putting any timelines on anything, because even the most accomplished ML researchers on the planet don't feel confident predicting two years out anymore.
Also bear in mind that these are the bad outcomes only. It's also possible things will work out. The upside is just as crazy sounding.
I guess some of them don't want to engage in inflating someone's already inflated ego
That feels passive-aggressive. Care to expound?
My take is they open chatgpt once, ask it to tell a joke, aren't very impressed, and never come back to it again.
Also most people don't want to take the time to learn new things. If the end benefit is that chatgpt saves you time, the line to get there isn't very clear. Especially when all this tech feels forced on them. We're a very self selected group to even be on this board.
Haha! I actually have a coworker who did the exact same thing. I can see where people would be resistant because it feels forced. Thanks for sharing your insight. I can definitely see what you mean.
I've met two types:
1. They're afraid of where it's going and operate on the fallacy that ignoring it will make it go away
2. What AD1 said. They're late adopters who need things to work all the way on the first few tries, else dismiss them
Very interesting. I guess my curiosity regarding AI has made it difficult for me to feel fearful or want it to disappear. I'm intrigued by where it's heading, and excited to see the unfolding.
I love using all the new AI tools, language models, even the art tool. It made my productivity increase 10 fold! It’s like having digital research assistant to bounce ideas off, gather insight, and streamline it into pure simplicity. Going to take some AI/ML training as well
No one cares
