There are tons of articles on this, but the best advice I ever got was to buy things that make you feel comfortable and feel good otherwise it is a waste of money.
Most of my work clothes is black, white, army green, navy blue, light grey and hues of beige. (Dress pants, blazers, cardigans, blouses, skirts, dresses, coats, etc). Every year I buy a nude/beige and black set of heels to last me the year. Depending on the colors I’ve put on, I pick the heels.
I can always mix up-to three colors and still look coordinated since most are neutral. I just don’t mix the green and blue.

I have a lot of Eileen Fisher. Basically everything can be mixed and matched together, so comfortable, high quality fabrics, sustainable brand. If not EF, I add other similar quality fabrics and mostly have black, white, navy or other shades on the darker side of blue, with some salmon or brown for a pop of color. I stick with pants, tops, and blazers. I only have a couple dresses but never wear them. I keep it simple especially because it reduces the stress of decisions with putting outfits together
I’m a big fan of Anne Klein and Ann Taylor. Simple and classic. Easy to mix with quality material. Poshmark is a good way to get articles if you are sustainably minded or need to save a few bucks.

Abercrombie and Fitch has really picked up their game with quality and styling. They have a great work line of trousers and blazers and a lot of their outfits embody the capsule wardrobe styling.
