I'm an Art Director with 15 years of professional experience. I've worked in agency settings for the past 7 years. I'm looking to move to New York City and I'd love to find a great place to work. Ideally, an agency that makes me feel at home, values their employees, pays well, has great benefits, is diverse, open-minded, etc. If this sounds like your company, DM me and I can send you my portfolio! Thanks :)

Benefits assistance, please!

Context: 25F, unmarried, no dependents & no parents

1) Firm provides AD&D of $20k at no cost. Can purchase voluntary AD&D up to $500,000 for $3.50/pp.

2) Group LTD 60% replacement of first $150,000 of earnings for $4.57/pp.

Inexpensive I know, but is this worth it for me? Or are these future considerations?

Any (video) editors turned AD or CD here? 6yrs of editor exp, been at the same shop for ~2yrs with no raise/promo. Good people & projects but the paycheck is beginning to sting with healthcare copays, consumer costs, housing going up. Feeling unsure where my career should go from here. Senior editor is the clear next step, but I’ve begun feeling like my career might have more room for growth if I aim for more of a hybrid creative path.

Curious if others have made that kind of jump.

Fresh out of college, could I just get a quick check from people more competent than me on how much should I end up saving per year not including 401k?

I've got fairly high rent, am contributing 15% to my 401k, and fairly middle of the road food/car related/entertainment expenses. This puts me at about 9k in after tax savings which isn't nothing but only adding 9k to my savings per year (not including ad hoc expenses or vacations) seems pretty low. Thoughts?

Looking at exits into pharma and biotech. Have an opp at a biotech at the SM level. Total comp excluding equity is around $190k; RSUs vest over 4 years with annual refreshers, so first year equity would be around $6,200 and it would go up by $6,200 each of the next 3 years, plus whatever base bump I get. Very good benefits package.

They envision 2-3 years before I jump either to AD or right to D. Solid opp? Or hold out to go straight to director level?

I graduated in May 2020 and found myself excepting a Junior Art Director position in Healthcare. I never saw myself in health but with many agencies having hiring freezes I decided to get some experience and save up some money in the meantime. Fast forward one year; I’ve added a new campaign to my website and I’m starting to apply to consumer agencies again.
Any tips to help me make the transition? Any place to avoid? Who have you noticed is hiring again? Thanks in advance :)

Is working at a healthcare agency early in your career a bad move if you really want to do the traditional ad route? I ask because I was approached to apply for one (highly awarded). I’m at a small shop on a 6 month contract, and since it’s lockdown still, I’m keeping my ears open. I’ve heard it’s a hard niche to get out of.

I’m getting paid a little more than $8/hr (no benefits but still FT work) and my boyfriend called me a wage cuck. He’s not wrong but it’s my only way of getting “experience” so I can get a job that will actually allow me to move out. 2 years of experience so far. Is this normal? Should I just quit my dreams of working in the ad industry and work at best buy ($15/hr) I have a degree. (lol)

Are there any account roles open that aren’t in Pharma? Seems like every AD post I come across is to work on healthcare

is the pay jump from jr. to ad or senior that drastic?

Backstory. First generation college student, first in fam to have “an office job with benefits etc and pto.” Recently been seeing a lot of posts about creatives, why certain positions are more likely to get fired etc. what jumped out at me was the $$ people were giving for each position. I assumed jr’s are like 40-50k, ad 50-60k, senior 60-70k. These posts are saying it’s more like 40-50k, 60-70k and 80-90k. Is that real?

like

I know these are tuff times, but I wonder if there’s a good consumer-focused / integrated agency hiring senior creatives (ACD/Sr AD). I’ve been looking for new opportunities on LinkedIn, but all I‘be seen is in the healthcare space... I know that is better than being unemployed, but it’s not my cup tea. Any leads?

Ad agency designer desperately looking for an out but I have a possible new job opportunity. Here is my dilemma:

Pros.... more money, no crazy client demands, pitches or decks or even prospective clients that will go nowhere (in-house), better benefits

Cons.... this is a big one - it’s healthcare

I’ve been at agencies with a range of clients for the past few years. Career suicide taking an in-house healthcare job? Especially if role focuses more on growth & performance over design?

Another one of my friends was laid off today :/ On the plus side, their company is giving them full pay & health benefits for four months & letting them keep any equipment they had. (100% not an ad agency.) I’m so bummed for them, but honestly I’m secretly low key jealous and wish I could just take a sabbatical from my agency job with that sort of severance package. I’m grateful for my job during this time, but this industry is burning me out. I can’t remember the last time I was happy.

Desperately want to get into healthcare strategy consulting. 13 years of healthcare clinical experience including project work. MBA. But keep getting told by recruiters that I don't have enough experience to be a Consultant or Manager but that I have too much experience to enter in every level such as a Senior Associate. Just one rejection after another, even when applying with internal referrals from Director or Partner levels. What am I doing wrong?

I've heard a couple of things about how the partner pension amount @ PwC is determined, both similar in approach.

Both calculations I have heard of result in an annuity paid until death, at which point a surviving spouse (if any) receives the annuity.

The first calculation I have heard is that you get 80% of your highest earning year as a partner (e.g. If your best year was $1M, you'd get $800k as an annuity).

The second calculation I have heard is that they look at your three highest earning years as a partner, and take the second highest and you get 100% of that. (e.g if your three highest earning years were $1M, $800k, and $1.2M, you'd receive $1M as an annuity).

Is ANY of this true, or just all rumor? Any PwC partners that can chime in and explain the pension plan fact for fact? Perhaps with sample numbers?
