Do you ever let yourself settle with a candidate who is 'good enough' because you're stretched for time? I feel like I was kinda forced to do that last week, and my heart hasn't been at peace since. I hate having to state the obvious with upper management, which is that it's important to wait for the right fit. But I understand the urgency as well. How do you usually go about this? Have half-hearted hires worked out well in the end?

Maybe I'm a harda** but I always fight to make sure that the candidate we go through with is a completely perfect fit. If I get pressure, I remind them how much more time it takes to fire someone, only to find someone else who is better suited for the role. The time spent on finding the right candidate is always worth it.

I've never obsessed over things like that as you really never know how someone will perform until they're in place. We've all seen great candidates who just struggled for some reason, and we've all seen the opposite. Sometimes the person with rough edges rises to the occasion. It's entirely possible that the person in which you have little confidence will surprise you in all the right ways.

I'd give them a chance first :) They may surprise you!
