I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. Working Canadian big law. Really burnt out and not enjoying work. Very understaffed and work product is suffering. Partners not hiring new associates, classic toxic work/availability expectations etc etc. have an opportunity to work with a boutique firm, make same amount making now but plus % of billables. Smaller deals and less sophisticated but opportunity to help grow the firm and be more entrepreneurial. Weekends generally protected and lower yearly target. What would you do?
