Does anyone else feel like they have kind of just ended up being in finance? I sometimes feel like it’s not as fulfilling as I thought it would be

I don't think I really expected finance to be fulfilling, I think I just expected to make a decent living and so far that's been pretty true for me. If anything, I've been disappointed by having less flexibility than I thought I would. I don't know why but I assumed I'd be able to set my own hours or work more remotely once I got to this level.

Honestly, I feel like since Covid the remote working has decreased massively. It’s really sad to see.

The thing I valued the most was stability. Decent pay doesn’t hurt either. I have times where I think I should have done something with some more purpose, but overall still satisfied with what I do.

That’s great to hear! I think as I’m getting older I’m learning that for me personally money isn’t everything and I’d actually rather have less but be doing something my I love. May be time for a career path change, who knows.

To be honest I find it more interesting than I thought it would be. But I never really expected it to be fulfilling. I saw it more as a way to make a living so I could do things that I find fulfilling. And for that it's just fine.

That’s amazing honestly, I really like that mindset. I think if I did it part time I would enjoy it a lot more

Somewhat. At some point during my teenage years, I learned that a family member, who has a decent amount of money saved up and lives comfortably, spent years working at Goldman Sachs during the glory days and got a few years of really good bonuses which funded her retirement. At that point, I just decided that I wanted to work in finance. I got a very low level internship that I stayed in for like 9 months through a family friend earning $10 an hour and worked my way up from there.
I joined undergrad as a psychology major

Yeah, I am strongly considering leaving the industry, but I’m the breadwinner and it will result in a serious quality of life change. I’m wondering if the money earned allows us to live a better life outside of work and if I should just suck it up during the week. We can afford to travel and put our son in extracurriculars and have enough left over to invest in his future, and if I leave to do something that will fulfill my heart more, I’ll also be sacrificing those things for myself and my family.

Nope, this is what I went to school for and where I wanted to work. It can certainly be unfulfilling at times though - I feel that often. But the pay makes up for that for me.

My pay isn’t much above minimum wage ahah, so I don’t really feel the benefit much :(

Honestly, I didn’t really have many expectations going in, but I’ve definitely gone through phases where I felt like what I was doing wasn’t all that meaningful. I spoke to my colleagues at the time and surprising a lot of them felt the same way at times.

Hello, I wanted to mention that I work as a sports commentator, specifically about soccer. I used to be one of the main journalists for Spanish media, but since I moved to Miami I feel the general passion for soccer is very different 🥲 The energy and commitment are not even close to what I felt in Spain, where some businesses would close if the match was too important. I hope this nostalgia goes away soon.
