Was the tasks something that would normally fall under your work load or the other person's? Two people sorting one task by both fielding it out to different people?
You need to bring it up and come up with a plan with them so that doesn't happened in the future.

Both as we’re both in the same department, so they can come to either of us, but the confusion lead from the 2 external manager & supervisor not communicating and organising who was dealing with tasks. Better communication could have resolved this problem.
Sounds like a better system needs to be in place. If it is a one-off occurrence, it is worthwhile to bring it up still, but I might not be too concerned. The manager should be coming back to you with how it happened and what they are doing to prevent it from happening again.

This was a one-off occurrence but you learn from mistakes and how to deal with different situations, so now we know how to prevent it from happening again…. Hopefully😊
Dang.. I haven't had a situation like this one, but I bet it was a very frustrating situation for you. But, I think a shared task tracker (like Trello or Asana) with clearly assigned owners and deadlines could help the team avoid double work. Another thing we do as a team is to huddle up in the morning to discuss the tasks we will accomplish that day. If you can't do it for the team, you could suggest these ideas. I hope it makes sense.

So frustrating when I am very busy and then doing a task that isn’t a quick job for nothing! I haven’t heard of either of them, would you recommend these?
I have been in this exact situation and it is frustrating. I would flag it politely but clearly. I usually send a quick summary email after the call saying, “Just confirming I am handling this task unless I hear otherwise,” and copy both people. It helps stop the overlap and gently reminds them to align before delegating..

Yeah that’s a good idea for future, just in the moment when someone asks you obviously just do it as they’ve asked you and I didn’t think twice, just wanted to get the job done. We’re only human😊
