Good question, I’ve twisted myself in knots trying to adapt and optimize my chaotic workplace too. And became really burnt out because of it.
My current solution I’m trying is to kinda of give up on that task and focus instead on just staying flexible (like a “reed in the wind”).
I feel like adaptability is going to get all of us farther than process optimization, or even the quality of our work in today’s corporate environments.
Set my sight on what the priority is today and just work on that. If the company is running on whiplash, I can’t do much to influence it. Just try and find somewhere else better while quietly putting my head down.
At some point I realized that the goalposts have a tendency to move, and I just needed to accept that. I've been working with a team that often faces abrupt changes in priorities, and if I freaked out over every little change I'd just have to give up. This may not be an ideal situation, but I've gotten better at being resilient, and it just makes things easier.
