That's a lousy position to be in. If you discovered that inadvertently, and you confront management about it right away, if probably won't be well received. Perhaps a better strategy would be to use it when you make a case for yourself during your next evaluation. Show how you've done well in the position and have grown and you happen to know you've been underpaid and that should be corrected.
I’ve been in a similar situation and I did try and fight it. They refused to budge so after 10+ years with that company, I left. No regrets.
I found out I was underpaid by 15% compared to a peer. I stayed—but I came to the next review with comps, results, and a clear ask. I got the raise, but it took being uncomfortable.
I found out in a bit of a roundabout way. For two years, I was the only person at my company doing marketing in-house, with the aid of a number of third party contractors. Last year management told me we'd be bringing in a marketing director to help the company scale. I saw the job listing on LinkedIn and was shocked to learn this person would be making almost double my salary to perform all the duties I'd been performing myself for the past two years. He joined in February, we butted heads, and I quit in April.
