My firm has laid off 25% of its attorneys and has fired all non-essential staff. I’m terrified/can’t afford to be let go. What can I do? How do I prepare for a potential lay off?

Help!: What do you see as alternatives to layoffs? Our six partners (we’re 100 people total) reduced comp to $0 to save and it’s not enough. 25% of staff is unbooked (high!) with no end in near sight.

Do you think layoffs would be more probable at a big 4/firm with over 2k staff or boutiques? Why?

My firm pays staff & seniors hourly, with 1.5x pay for overtime. Firm just cut our hours from the normal 58-60 down to 40 a week for the foreseeable future. Should I be concerned about layoffs?

Anyone read this half-assed email from Canning about how “being about 2% over our projected demand for staff which is now being addressed?” Seems to be a pretty lackadaisical way of addressing layoffs

That awkward moment when a random all staff meeting is called >24 hours before. Who’s getting fired or promoted... reckon I won’t be sleeping tonight. And it’s been one helluva rough year...

How many of you at smaller consulting companies went through a reduction in force / staff layoffs this year?

Major investment banks laid off 3,000 front-office staff. Yikes.. Have you been affected by this?

I’m at an agency that just went through several rounds of layoffs. It often seems like staff have no recourse when the layoffs hit. How could a staff union assist in that situation?

Anybody have any good stories about a fellow attorney or staff member who was fired?

How are you dealing with the current admin and paralegal staff layoffs? At my firm we were working as a team and it seems challenging to redistribute work. Not to mention, there’s zero morale.

A teacher in our district just got fired for a post she made on facebook. Now we have a staff meeting. I sense a lecture coming.

Mic laid off its entire staff, sold the name to Bustle, and is relaunching with an entirely new staff. Read the union's statement on the fiasco.

I think I'm going to get fired. I'm staff 1 and in my first audit. I "found" something and brought it up for a 2nd look just in case. It escalated and now I'm in a middle of a mess. (Cont)

My company folded and the CEO fired everyone and only guaranteed 2 days pay... He was on vacation when this was sent out to the entire staff.

Staff 2, worked at 3 clients in the past busy season. Around 70% of my feedback are “Often”, 20% “Usually” and 10% “Always”. Shall I worry about being fired?
