That has become quite common. It's partly because long-term employees are taken for granted. And higher comp is how organizations attract new blood. The phenomenon of paying new arrivals more even has a name, wage inversion.

This has been going on for a LONG time now. I would definitely talk to your manager. Retention is just as important as bringing on new people and they seem to forget that.
