Do all firms prorate bonuses for time spent on parental leave? I assumed so, but recently heard from a friend her V50 didn’t (~5 years ago).

Does anyone know what parental leave benefits are at publicis? A friend of mine is considering a role there and there’s no information in their new hire benefit materials.

Hello!l everyone! I recently accepted a new role with a smallish startup that has great healthcare benefits (100%!) but I haven’t been sent any info on parental leave benefits. I didn’t think to ask in the interview because I was so focused on getting the job. I am not pregnant now, but I married this year and I’m approaching 35 so I’d like to start taking it seriously. How do I approach the conversation as a new employee and not make them think I’m pregnant already? (Starting job in January)

Would anyone be able to share the BCG London parental leave policy (both parents)? Is a minimum tenure required? Thanks!

I have not taken any parental leave while I was in India and it's been 3 months since the birth of my child.

I’m almost 37 weeks pregnant, due 12/29, and just found out that my company is increasing its paid parental leave policy effective January 1, 2023. Obviously there’s the possibility that baby will be born late and I’ll be eligible but the fact that I could either get it or not get it based on one day is really breaking my heart and giving me anxiety. I just wanted to share somewhere people might actually understand. I’m the only person in this situation at my work so it feels weird.

Do people who take parental leave multiple times as associates get pushed pack on their track to partnership? For example, at a firm with a 8 year track, would a person who took two leaves of six months each have to wait 9 years to make partner?

Mamas - how did you all approach taking parental leave? I will be starting my “real job” at 31 and plan to have a child within the first couple years. Would it be terrible for me to go on parental leave after only being at a job for a year? I plan on taking the full 12 weeks, btw (and possibly stacking PTO/OT & sick leave). Hey all- looking for some travel advice. My wife and I just had our second kid in October and we overlap during the month of January for parental leave. We live in the northeast and want to take a trip somewhere warm for a week in Jan. Any suggestions? Florida seems like the obvious choice. I’m looking for ideas in specific parts of Florida where we could rent a house with a pool, walkable to activities for our 3yo son, maybe near the beach, etc. I’m also open to non-Florida ideas but US only.

I’m 11 weeks. Started interviewing before I knew I was pregnant and expecting to hear today about an offer (or not). Not sure what the parental leave policies are, but I feel weird starting a leadership position knowing I’ll be out in 6 months. Am I feeling guilt for no reason? Obviously I haven’t told them. If I don’t get the job, I’m still looking due to a toxic work environment and unrealistic expectations from the practice lead. (She calls PTO “partial” time off.) I also have a 1 year old.

ID attorneys: what’s your firm’s parental leave policy? My firm gives 6 weeks paid maternity leave and 0 paternity leave. I’m told this is the norm for ID, but that can’t be true in 2022… can it?! 😫What are your firms giving for mat/pat leave?

Just heard that Bain in the Nordics is paying bonus to staff on sick leave & parental leave. How is the bonus set and what about McKinsey in the Nordics? Is this common?

The company I work for in the construction industry is revising its parental leave policy. I’m aware of lawsuits related to equal bonding time. The updated draft policy gives 8 weeks to birthing parent to recover & then 4 weeks to each parent for bonding. Reactions? I would appreciate any insights.

Currently on parental leave and planning on quitting my job once I go back… is it better to somehow call my managing partner and quit over the phone before I plan on coming back from leave or go back for like a week or so and give notice then? I feel like a jerk either way for some reason…

Is there anyone here who works for a firm that enforces the one year of work prior to paid parental leave? Anyone who lost out on leave because they took PDL in year 1 due to severe nausea? Please name firms that have not enforced it. Thanks!

I work for a global company and I’m trying to streamline our leave of absence administration. Our goal is to set global minimum standards for particular leaves such as Paid Parental Leave inclusive of federal and state offsets (where applicable). Does anyone have any vendors that they use who can handle global leave administration including potential payroll calculations? Thank you!

Does anyone know Willkie's parental leave policy for non-birthing parents who intend to be primary caregivers? Chambers says 18 weeks primary, 4 weeks non-primary. Considering applying to Willkie, but need to know if they meant birthing parents by primary caregiver since my wife and I (female) are trying for a kiddo next year, and she is carrying. Would really appreciate insight should anyone have access to that info.

Do you think parental leave should be the same for both spouses? Why or not? What does your company do?

I’m hearing a lot about people who don’t have kids finding that they are being treated unfairly and I really feel for that. But as someone with kids, I feel like I get it from the other side of the spectrum, where people forget I have them and expect me to turn things ASAP in the evening. It’s not enough to just provide parental leave; I want to not just have my children but also spend time with them!

2022 lateral and was on parental leave the same year. Hours are pretty low, anything to be concerned about? As in 60% of the pro rated target low.

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Anyone know if Arnold & Porter requires you to be at the firm for one year to take parental leave? Or Cooley?
