My company offers a generous 12-weeks of paid parental leave. As a male, when should I notify my manager and HR that my wife is pregnant?

I am a high performer, but I fear the inconvenience of my absence could become a reason to look to replace me. What protections would I have as a male after announcing this? Am I better off waiting until later in pregnancy?

Significant other’s parental leave was cut from 20 weeks (I know, incredibly generous) to 4 effective immediately. We are due in 8 weeks. Anything that can be done? His handbook does state “can be changed at anytime, etc etc”

EY is hiring remote executive assistants. You will work from home 90% of the time. Hiring for the following cities: Dallas, Cleveland, Louisville, New Orleans, great benefits. Including unlimited paid time off, wellness fund, monthly reimbursement of wifi and telephone expenses, generous parental leave, and much more. Reach out if you would like me to refer you:)

Is a daily 1.5 hour commute (total) worth a more supportive work environment and better benefits?
Thinking of jumping ship after just 6 months in a fully remote position for an in-house, in person job where expectation is 5d/week in person. Commute would be around 90minutes/day in interstate. Better salary, good 401k match, parental leave (20 weeks paid), 4wks PTO, and a very big name for the resume. 3 YOE. But I love the flexibility of remote work, so struggling to decide.

Any insight???

Ladies, I’ve got an interview tomorrow with a company in industry. Their website says they offer 20 days paid parental leave after a birth. I’m hoping to try for a second child in the next year or so, and after my last childbirth experience and rough recovery there’s a snowball’s chance in hell I’d go back into the office after only 4 weeks. Thoughts on how to address the parental leave in the interview? Only 20 days is absolutely unacceptable to me (and frankly should be unacceptable, period).

Hi fishes 😊
Anyone interviewed recently for a PM position at Adobe or just works there? I had the 2nd round and I know the next will involve me presenting a business case to a panel of 5.

1. Any idea of what the business case can be?
2. What is their general outlook on parental leave? In the 2nd round I basically told them that I am pregnant and willgo on mat leave in March. I wonder if I will be dismissed just because of this or I still have a chance...

Any thoughts?

Venting. Recruiters, if you’re in conversations with someone on parental leave, please be extra mindful and respectful of the time they’re carving out to talk to you. It’s not easy to find a free 60 minutes, so calling 15 minutes late or giving us a moments notice is not cool.

REALLY feel dumb asking this, BUT.. Our company offers 16 paid weeks parental leave. Do we include that in the total time or in addition to the state's family leave? I am second guessing my answer and need a pulse check.

What is the right time to disclose a pregnancy?
Looking for roles that are typically not redundant, strategic, and critical to day to day operations, when would you expect an applicant to disclose a pregnancy, esp if they are due within ~3 months of being hired? I get a fear of being disqualified due to the potential of losing the new hire to maternity/parental leave for 2+ mos following delivery, but it seems disrespectful to withhold the information until after hired. How would you handle it?

I want to apply for an internal role but my wife is pregnant and due in December, which would put me out for 8 weeks due to parental leave offered by the company. If I get an interview would it be best to advise them during the interview since I already work for the organization or if/when an offer is extended?

Talk to me about the places you work with good parental leave. I had 6 months (2 unpaid, rest paid) with my first kid. We're about the TTC #2 and I can't imagine having less leave next time but also want to explore other opportunities. It's not easy to find anywhere else with this much leave, sadly.

Hi does anyone know if we are entitled to bank holidays on top of parental leave?

I’m my partners only associate and I went on parental leave two weeks ago. I feel horrible for leaving him to handle our cases alone, but am trying to focus on my wife and new baby. That being said, should I still offer to handle minor matters that come in to ease the workload off my boss? He’s been super cool during my entire leave, so I don’t feel pressured to one bit.

Anyone received paid maternity leave at the start of your new job? Just got an offer to start 8/29 & my baby is 2 weeks old. Company policy is 4 weeks paid parental leave (usually supplemented by up to 26 weeks STDisability which I won’t qualify for). I want to “start” 8/29 w/ paid leave then actually begin work 4 weeks later. I’d consider a signing bonus instead but I’d also like to have the health benefits that start day 1 as well. Anyone done something similar? Any special considerations?

I need help forming an argument. My company recently improved its parental leave policy, increasing it by a few weeks and also increasing the amount of money that gets paid as part of ST disability. I recently had a child in February so I JUST missed the boat on this. How can I convince my boss to retroactively apply both the extra leave and the extra $ for me? Last time there was an update it was retroactive by 6 months but this time it’s “case by case”
