Have any of you or people you’ve known parlayed their skills and experience to work in other industries? And if so, what were they? Are there natural fits for people like us with ad experience?

I would love to know the answer to this. I have great skills, just no idea where to look for something new and put them to use. And please don't suggest Wedding Planner. Lol

A few years ago I found myself in a very different, more corporate role in an office hardware company. The skills I had developed as a creative in advertising were invaluable because I could take business problems and figure out very left-of-field ways to tackle them. My background also made it easy for me to figure out ways to position new services and products for the sales teams. And my PowerPoint skills are really on point now. Excel still reduces me to helpless tears though.

I’ve been noticing resumes without a date for college graduation. But all the dates are there for jobs. So does it make sense to hide that one piece if I can do the math based on work history? 🤷‍♂️ And I’m over 40 and in this bowl. So I don’t care about age. Actually, I do. Because I prefer more experience than less.

Honest question: what have you learned from the younger people in your office? Do you tend to teach/guide more or learn more from them?

I don’t know how to feel. I am 52 and hired 2 creatives both at least 5 years older than me. It felt good to add depth to a young team, but on the flip side, these guys had to accept rather low wages.

Ready to level up at work and need to figure out what's next. I've been gifted the opportunity to have meet and greets with various senior executives. It's a chance to introduce myself and learn more about other departments. If something clicks, maybe they will open/create a role for me.
