Hi all, I'm managing job hunt stress and hit a wall. After being out of work since January of this year, I received an offer, but the pay is $20k+ too low, and there are no health benefits. Still waiting on a potential offer for another role with better pay and benefits. How do you balance the immediate need for income (even if insufficient) against waiting for a job that actually provides for your needs? All advice welcome!

I think I would take it and continue the hunt

Agreed. Also, ask them for more money and health coverage. If they say no, it is on them when you leave for more money and better benefits.

Agree. Old rules that you have to stay a year do not apply.

I had a similar situation a few years ago, but ended up turning down the lower-paying role. It was scary in the moment, but it left me open to say yes when the right offer finally came through. Trust yourself, you know what you’re worth.

We all have to assess our own family needs. Know that whatever decision you make, it's the "right one" for right now. When the better opportunity comes, you will be ready as this position potentially will provide you with additional insights that you otherwise might not have had. Knowing your worth and accepting less only means that you're in a financial bind and have to bide your time until the right opportunities arises. Don't beat yourself up, lots of executives have had to take gig work and have been creative as this market is not kind to those with lots of experience.
You've got this and if nothing else, this will give you a great story to share.

I have a coworker who keeps spouting comparative odds and situations in regards to the safety of the vaccine. Such as: you're twice as likely to get hit by lightening than have blod clots from JJ. It's very annoying and I find it to be really inapprorpriate, maybe because it's pushy or just I find these comparative things to be a bit irrelevant. How does one handle something like that? Can you shut the person down without starting a spat?
