How do I answer when asked for current salary? I know it anchors the offer. Dodging feels awkward. Is it ok to refuse?

Dance around the question: “I’m targeting between a range of X and Y. I’ve come to that range after a lot of research about what the market is paying for my skillset and experience.” If they insist say “I’ve had great growth at my current company and they have treated me well. I’m towards the top of the pay and for my role.” If they keep insisting lie, within reason, giving yourself the raise you’re looking for. Your future employer has a right to an honest answer to any question they have a right to ask you. They do not have an ethical right to ask you this question. They should care how much you’re worth to them, not how much you’re currently making.

I usually say something like "I'm making X but need Y to consider leaving" if they really push. You don't have any obligation to answer though. And in some states, it's illegal for them to even ask.

I always counter by asking, “What is the salary range for this role?” This puts the ball in their court and gives you a range to work with. It also helps avoid providing a number yourself and potentially limiting your negotiating power.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

Has anyone left big 4 or other PA firms tax transaction service groups for industry (or know of anyone)? What was the role and salary bump, how are annual bonuses/raises in industry, what is a typical work week (hours) like? I don’t think I can take this always on just to stay afloat life much longer. For context I am considered a high performer, am near the top of the salary band at my level and have a great supporting network at Deloitte. It’s just not worth it to have zero personal life.

I want to be one of those f*ckers who get up early and run. But I also like an alcohol or two at night, as a treat. Hangover cure? Hydration? Edibles? White Claw instead of wine? Will I eventually love the runner’s high more than my alcohols?
