Best thing to do here is say it was not a good fit. We did not agree on certain ideas. Emphasize your character and what you will bring to the team. It would also be helpful to contact the person who let you go and let them know that you want to end on good terms even though it was not a good fit. People leave jobs all the time
I’ve learned that honesty is best policy. Only one person that I interviewed with asked, and I was honest I said that I made the rookie mistake of letting my personal stuff interfere and I wasn’t focused. That was true enough. I also said I learned from it and I’m dealing with my issues privately, but I am improving tremendously
You know that greatest weakness question in interviews? Think of it like that. Be honest about what happened, but you don’t have to go overboard with details. Then focus on what you’ve done to fix and grow from it. Make sure you are ending by looking forward to what you bring to the new role.
Put the focus on your wellbeing. Let them know that you were going through a difficult time and that you learned a lot from the experience and you have some takeaways for improvement going forward. You can even share specifics of what you learned.
And do not mention the PIP if you can avoid it.
Restructuring! Especially if you’re in social Media. I also give my old boss who has an EVP title. These days they ask you for the reference. They don’t just call unless it’s a financial company. Etc
I would say, “There was a restructuring, and unfortunately, my role was affected by this.” With the number of layoffs and other things, I don’t think many will dig in too much to this.
I agree with what others are saying, focus on it as a learning opportunity, not as a failure. Most people get fired at some point in their life, you're not the only one. It's all about how you spin it.
The best way to approach it is to say I'm looking for a new career. Don't look at the past just focus on the present.
dont lie. what you do is address it before they ask you. my family was looking to move so i have been doing freelance or contract work from home while looking for jobs in xxx side of town.
