How do you explain a layoff in interviews without it looking suspicious? I lost my job in a company-wide restructure last month, and now I'm worried that it'll sound like I was underperforming. Should I be upfront about it being a layoff vs being let go?

You absolutely should. Being laid off in this economy and job market is nothing to be ashamed of, and I would bet just about anything that the recruiter has heard a million similar stories by now. The worst thing you could do would be to lie about the situation and then get found out. Not to mention getting laid off is going to draw far less scrutiny than being let go. The former happens to tons of people, usually through no fault of their own. The latter happens when you're not up to the job.

Everyone around me seems to be losing their jobs too... I am very worried about it

That’s a hard one since also manny company’s in sales don’t lay off they just don’t adjust the goals and than don’t rehire after they let people go. But I would say explain what happened as best you can without sounding bitter or like you’re not good at meeting goals. Explain the company changed directions or that they no longer do x. Also whatever you say make sure it’s consistent, even if tweaked for who you’re speaking with, but constant thought out the process even between different companies. The last thing you want is for them to think your lying or hiding something, that will disqualify you faster than anything else.

I am always up front and honest. I have been laid off twice in my lifetime and I feel like being honest is the best policy. Companies understand that layoffs happen and they will cut anyone.

I would be upfront. I always say it was a company wide restructure and then move straight to what I delivered before the layoff. Layoffs are common right now and usually not a red flag.

Can someone refer me at coforge for Java Springboot developer 2 Yoe profile?

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
