I learned a long time ago not to take any of it personally. I just tell myself they hired someone more experienced than me, and I move on. Don't let your self overthink it.
Oh my goodness! I thought I was hard on myself! It does hurt my confidence and definitely dings my morale when I don’t hear back after our interview. Particularly if I think the interview went well. But you should never feel a shame of yourself.
It's really hard not to take it personally. I think that's human nature because it's a form of rejection. But at the end of the day, it's a numbers game. For every job posted, they probably have hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants. Getting an interview means you were better than the majority of people anyway, and that should boost your confidence.
I think it’s really important to understand that multiple people apply for roles. It’s not just you. For anything of that nature, it is very likely that you will not be the one that ends up getting it and that is just how it is. For anything that requires an application, it is likely that it will not be your application that gets picked. I understand that it can be painful regardless especially when you know you have everything it takes and more but I really need more people to know that it cannot always be you that gets the shot especially if you don’t have visibility on the other candidates that you’re up against. Sometimes it’s down to things that are so far out of your control that you shouldn’t even let it knock you down. Don’t let things like this take get you done.
