Hi Chicago - just moved here from the UK (via 7 years in Germany) and looking to make some great new friends.

Moved to River North and into trivia nights, most sports, movies etc and would love to find some people open to adding a city newbie to the group!

42m if that matters 🤷🏻‍♂️😁

Thanks so much!

I’m part of the British American Business Council, in Chicago - my parents are English and I lived there for 15 years. You should come to some of our events.
We have a Christmas lunch on Dec 9 coming up.

Welcome! We have a Soho House in the Fulton Market area. But that area in general is pretty decent for people our age, even if you don’t bother with a Soho membership.

They have a great gym with classes, a rooftop pool, a movie theatre, and plenty of events included, and it’s a place to take clients or work remote (except past 5pm as it gets too loud)

The only downside is you will be spending a lot of extra money if you go just to hang out to eat and drink.

Some companies will even pay for your membership fees at VP level. And if you are there for work reasons, you can expense food/drink. But as I mentioned earlier, it’s pretty impossible to concentrate to conduct work past 5pm there. Fine just for networking.

Welcome! I moved here in March and have found people really welcoming! More than happy to meet for drinks and can share some of a fellow-chicago-newbies top tips…definitely will be skewed food-related 🙂

I’ll take those food recs, too!

How do you know if you have good hygiene? my ex told me I don’t

This is my routine:
- I have curly hair, can only wash it once a week/put dry shampoo if needed
- I brush my teeth 2 times a day
- Wear deodorant / perfume every day (my way, and good girl) and shave off any hair (I did laser but still), as much as possible. Some days, I cannot keep up with shaving (especially if it won’t show)
- I wear pantyliners and change it once a day/ change panties once a day
- I shower my body every day

How to leverage personal connections for personal gain?

I am a 2nd year and my spouse is a higher up in engineering in big tech. He has some (but not a lot of) sway in outside counsel and could make some intros to in house counsel.

My firm will gladly use my connections for their own gain, so I’m making sure that if/when this situation comes, I take full advantage of it.

Looking for tips on short term and long term strategy.

I am an unmarried working man in his 30s with a southern mother. In other words I'm flying home for Christmas and my mother just called to tell me that she just happened to accidentally run into the sweetest girl from her church that she just knows I'll get along with and accidentally invited her to our house for dinner the night that I get home. Deadass the woman will not rest until I am tied down. Pray for me!

Does anyone have any advice for supporting and coping with someone going through withdrawal? My husband is trying to quit his weed addiction and he has been irritable and mean since he quit. His mood is erratic and he is constantly annoyed w me. I don't even know how to bring this up without setting him off. Just feel like I'm walking on eggshells and I'm emotionally exhausted at this point. Is there anything I can do to help him? Is there anything I can do to help myself cope?

Found a random engagement ring.

Hi all, so I found a platinum ring (which I assumed it's an engagement ring as it has dates and initials engraved on top.) And a Divvy tag (I have no idea what it was until I googled it. Apparently it's a bike sharing service in Chicago) in a briefcase I ordered online. I was thinking of returning the item back to the store but that wouldn't help the person who lost the ring. Attached is a picture of them.

What should I do now?
