How does everyone feel about alcohol at work events? Is it a bit risky or is it a good way to ease anxiety??

I don't drink at all, so work events with alcohol (which are most of them) is a huge source of anxiety for me. I get something non-alcoholic as soon as I arrive to avoid comments, but it's still difficult to navigate when people start buying rounds. I avoid work events whenever possible because of it.

I will never understand why people have a hard time understanding some people don't drink. I am so sorry to hear that it causes you such anxiety!

At work events I have a two drink maximum rule, and wine is usually safer than hard liquor. I’m currently hiding a pregnancy though and luckily the last two after work events that included alcohol were scheduled on days that I couldn’t go, so it was easy to avoid the situation.
I don’t think it’s necessarily risky unless you know that you may have issues with alcohol, I think it’s perfectly fine in moderation. I have social anxiety and it does tend to get me to be a little more talkative and social.

I feel the exact same, I also have social anxiety so 1 or 2 drinks does help me out a bit with being able to chat a bit more. However, I would never let it get to the point of being crazy!

I don’t drink, but I’m usually okay with alcohol at work events. I personally don’t see a huge benefit but if others prefer it, it’s whatever

Fair enough! Some people take it a bit far and feel they can say anything which can cause a few issues!

I’m not a big drinker but having alcohol at work event is pretty standard. I’m not sure we go over well in general if There wasn’t any alcohol available.

I mean more extreme amounts of alcohol, rather than just 1 or 2 drinks. But yes I totally get you

I think they’re encouraged but also know there should be a 2 drink limit. Also need to be conscious of those that are non-drinkers and offer mocktails or other drinks (teas, pop, etc).

I never drink at work events. I order a club soda with a lemon to fit in and make others who are drinking feel comfortable. For me, alcohol would make anxiety worse. I would look back on the event and criticize in my mind anything that could seem less than professional. I have never regretted not drinking but I can think of many times that others would regret drinking. If asked why, I just say I am health conscious. This is becoming more common and I hear more and more people tell me they don't drink anymore. If anything, I think it shows conviction and discipline. Post-covid, there are fewer even events. I have far more breakfast and lunch events. This has made things easier for the non-drinkers.

So I’m in my second trimester. Everything has come back normal and great. Anatomy scan went beautifully. Now I’m getting cramps really low in my left side that I would say are like a 6-7 on pain scale and they’re like every few minutes. I don’t think they’re Braxton hicks it feels more like period cramps I’ve experienced before. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal? Can I take something for the pain?
