If they will fail what will happen?
What if someone failed an English communication assessment working within the project. Will they remove and put it on the bench/PIP?
Delayed or skipped salary hikes, no transparency in ratings. And these kinds of assessments they bring in

I am happy that Wipro is doing these steps. I don't want to sound hurtful to anyone here. I know of a large population of colleagues who are from non-english backgrounds, but have mastered their communications.
But, I have junior engineers in the team ( upto like 6 years experience ), who cannot articulate clearly with the customer even after 2 years in the same project. It feels very bad when team members from south American countries communicate much better than India. When you are weak in communications, you get less work, or end up doing inefficient work. This ends up hurting our overall client relations as we cannot scale up. I will easily go with less experienced folks(even NGAs) that are better in communications than those with experience but have lost steam and the desire to improve on their communications.
I agree. This should not have come as a surprise. There should be sufficient notice provided , and access to training given before asking to take the test. That would be the correct and humane way.
Normally what people use in day to day life is different from the English exam. That may be one of the reasons.
Any idea what type of question is being asked in the exam, that will give fair idea of failure.
Speaking,reading,writing,grammar and some story repeating thing.
