I feel like a lot of us tend to vent about how awful our bosses are. But as someone who's about to take on a leadership position, I'm wondering - when you think about your best bosses, what qualities made them great?

I can count the number of good bosses I've had on one... finger. They were a subject matter expert in areas that I was interested in, and more than happy to share their wealth of knowledge. They had a very open door policy and were totally willing to bounce ideas back and forth with me. They collaborated, they did not dictate. Also, they were excited and enthusiastic about the work in a way that made it almost infectious. These are qualities I try to bring to the workplace (or at least did when I had a job!) with the thought in mind that we are responsible for "bringing up" the next generation of architects and designers. That is, if we care about the future of our profession.

Something I never had: a solvent boss who could pay the bills, make payroll and keep a steady flow of work.
Architects are terrible bosses because their business struggles.

My favorite boss ever is down to earth, approachable, honest, and fair. If there is a problem or I have made a mistake I know I can bring it to him and he will take it calmly and work together with me to correct things. If I have a good idea he will consider it, even when it contradicts his ideas. He doesn't have an inflated ego and he genuinely cares about his people. He treats us all as equal beings before job title. He human and none of us are perfect but he knows and admits that he's not infallible.

Any advice on renegotiating my salary? I’m a compounding pharmacist and i also float to other stores while also being solely responsible for the compounding pharmacy. I perform MTMs for 6 or so stores and am now a being asked to other projects. I originally signed on to only do compounding and occasionally fill in at other stores when needed. I have another offer from a hospital that is significantly higher than what i am being paid now. Would just like some pointers on this kind of conversation

RANT: People re-writing a cw’s stuff has always been painful. These days it’s far more common than when I started. It’d be one thing if they upgraded the work. If I learned from it. If I genuinely seethed with envy over their wit w/that perfectly placed semi-colon. People can’t re-art direct stuff bc they don’t know the programs so they ask the ADs for changes. Word and a keyboard made everyone think they can write. Which they can’t. Google Slides is Google slip ‘n slide into (bad ref. here.)

I’m 27 & going to go to back to college for my bachelors. I have worked in the legal field for about 8 years & I’m burnt out. After a lot of research an thought I am leaning towards either architecture or interior design. I wanted to ask some advice from anyone working as an architect or interior designer. How do you feel about the field? What are the stress levels like? Do you enjoy it? Are you working at firm or are you working independently? Any info helps! Thanks 😊

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?

Does anyone know if Dwell Design in DC is a good company to work for?

Hi everyone, I’m an architectural designer (from Europe) with 1.5 yrs experience. I’m working for a practice in San Francisco, full-time from the office, getting 25 an hour. It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈
