I test the market every year. Apply for jobs to see what kimd of offers I get. Last year had 6 offers and none offered signifcantly more, only offered a decent sign on bonus so I was at high end of market. Will start applying again in May to see whats out there.

It's generally true that moving to another organization is the best way to get a bump in pay. So that essentially establishes your value in the market. If you stay too long with one company you can wind up being taken for granted and your pay will likely stagnate. It amounts to the dreaded loyalty tax.
