I hate how performance reviews feel more like popularity contests than honest assessments. At my last review, I exceeded every metric, but because I’m not super chatty or part of the in crowd, I got a lukewarm write-up with vague feedback like needs to be more visible. Meanwhile, a coworker who missed multiple deadlines got a glowing review because they’re friendly with our boss. It’s exhausting watching favoritism win over results. Has anyone ever had a review that actually felt accurate and fair? What made the difference?

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
