I have 5 YoE and interviewed for a Java Developer role. I cleared the Karat round, R1 technical, and R2 with the VP, which went well. It’s been almost 3 weeks with no update from HR despite follow-ups, and Workday still shows “Business Review.” What should I infer from this?

What’s the norm as far as bonuses to first years, particularly in V20 firms? Everyone seems to be happy with my work, a well respected partner is “impressed,” but there’s no way I’ll hit bonus hours. I’ve done some pro bono but just was not given much work the first few months and still am not swamped, which I am enjoying. I’ve heard whispers that all first years get bonuses. I’d assume it depends on the overall market and firm specifically but just wondering if there’s a norm among V20.

My gf just got a peloton and now she is insufferable. “Peloton” this and “peloton” that. She even said “you can’t sit with me anymore because you don’t have a peloton”. She’s out of control!

Had a heart to heart talk with my director today. Been feeling overwhelmed and burnt out since my last job and trying to onboard into this new job (started 3 mths ago). I didn’t have any break between jobs so I realized I burned out quick here. It’s usually not my thing to be too honest in a professional setting but I needed him to know bc my performance was affected. We brainstormed how we can work together to make this a better experience for me. Hopefully he was genuine and doesn’t fire me!

Getting over heartbreak and having a full time job is torture lol. My boyfriend and I just broke up after almost a year of being together. Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? Just out of curiosity. We’re not special counsel with special niche skills or anything, just associates. Pitfalls to beware? Positives?
