Does anyone else's firm use dictation phones? I have to use them so our secretaries can enter in our time but I cant stand it. Feels like i'm a lawyer in the 80s or 90s...

Are you prohibited from entering your own time? I don't get it. I don't even trust secretaries to enter my time. There is no way I'd do this.

That sounds horribly inefficient. They don’t let you enter your own time?

Don't do it. It's so dumb. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. My firm tried to make me do that, and i just filled out their form instead

like

I get that lol. My old boss had three secretaries instead of a computer and made his of counsel wife drive back and forth to office to swap recorders

funny

how barbaric

That’s so strange? Isn’t it faster to just enter your own time or use Dragon? Why don’t you have a billing/client management system? Had a boss who still bills and drafts documents that way and it was horribly inefficient

Finally just took a day to work from home. My office never instituted a hybrid policy, kept everyone in office full time, and now our county hospital beds are full. I am sure this is a question with an obvious answer, but does anyone else just feel absolutely trapped in a job they hate because of their student loans? I’m three years out of law school and I still have $160K in student debt despite making aggressive payments. I work in a larger firm (not big law per se, but 250+ attorneys and big for the market). I am pretty unhappy with my job the vast majority of the time, but I feel like I have no options. $160k at 6% and 7% interest cannot be ignored.

I’m at a midsize firm in the Midwest and I’ve noticed that we’ve hired multiple associates who all graduated law school the same year. Some are coming from clerkships, other firms, etc., but they’re all on the same graduation year. This feels like it’s setting up a squeeze down the road for these folks with respect to partnership. Is there something I’m missing or is this something that will cause issues down the road?
