You should always go too formal for interviews if you aren't sure of what to wear. I would wear a suit or a blazer and trousers like AA1 said.
I was in the same boat a few months ago! I went with a tailored blazer and trousers, but paired it with a simple blouse and some understated jewelry. It felt polished without being too stiff. Business casual with intention, basically!
What industry and city?
I’m in nyc marketing agency, non-creative role. For that I’d suggest a blazer but not a full on suit. Business casual, simple, neutral. You don’t want them to think about your clothes at all. So simple, classic.
Yea I had this dilemma recently - but going from NYC consulting to Bay Area biotech. I knew that a full suit would be too much for California (and wanted to stay away from East Coast formality stereotypes) so I went for a non-matching blazer and pants with a nice blouse. It worked well - was nicely dressed but not overly formal.
Is this the first or the final? This depends as well. I noticed the meet & greet with the team is different. If it’s a first. I would do a bow blouse & skirt or slacks. Kitten heel. Final prob the same. Also, type of company matters as well. Dresses are great especially if it’s client side.
I would wear a suit and try to soften it a little bit in styling (crew/scoop/v-neck blouse instead of a collared or button up shirt, hair down or otherwise styled comfortably or in a way that lets your personality through, understated jewelry, etc.). Agree with SD1 that it’s better to err on the side of being too formal for interviews
Dress and a blazer could also work great for the spring weather. Agreed on being overly dressed vs under.
Where do you get your tailored blazers?
