Just get out there and hustle to fill your plate. Tell everyone you need work.

Were you hired to work exclusively with this partner or just mainly with them? Doubting it’s the former? Why can’t you work with other partners to get your hours?
If your primary partner can't keep you busy that's on them but also on the group to utilize you more effectively. Like others say, fill up your plate, and take that as license to work with other partners you like.
I ended up transitioning to a completely different practice group at my firm because the group I was hired for couldn’t fill my plate. I started asking other partners for work. It all worked out in the end, though not without some annoyances
Sorry, but I must be frank: this likely means that you will be laid off soon. This same situation happened to me recently.
Ask other partners for work. Take the initiative. If you’re good at what you’re doing it will be noticed and you will soon be utilized to full capacity.
Keep your assigned partner happy by doing good work.
Keep the firm happy by hitting (or exceeding) your billables.
That’s it.
Thank you for all of the advice and reassurance! I will keep at it!
It takes longer than 3 months to fully ramp up. Knock on tons of doors and explicitly ask for work. If it were me I might wait til month 8 to worry about leaving. Depending on how bad it gets maybe sooner. But being new and getting ramped up just takes time. Also people hour hoarding at the end of the year is pretty normal. Also target equity partners for work not income partners that need the hours for themselves.
Thank you.
Hi OP, the same exact situation happened to me at my firm (I have been here for 1 year now). I was hired for partner X, who ignored me for nearly 6 months into employment. I just sought work from other departments/partners. I wouldn’t be worried about being “laid off” like what another post mentioned. As long as you are hitting and meeting your billables you will be fine. It is really annoying tho. I was honestly a bit offended by it at first. But now I just do my job to get the hours done and have found myself in a very diversified practice which is good for when I eventually move on
Thank you.
