I just heard rumors that they are planning cuts at DoD. This administration is moving so fast I can barely keep up. How do you all feel about this downsizing effort? Necessary or excessive?

Excessive and absolutely stupid.
There may be gov't bloat but EM&Co are going about it too fast, too heedlessly, and from the wrong end (little guys to big guys, not really researching true needs from what look like knee-jerk, sometimes retaliatory actions).
I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, but even I know that this mess isn't the way to do things.

It’s 100% coming. Somehow the administration convinced the public that the federal workforce is responsible for excessive spending. I think defense still has a little more time since they are focused on civilian at the moment.

like

Civilian is a term to refer to civilian agencies like HHS, Energy, Education, etc. In this context, I meant the DOGE cuts are focused on civilian agencies in the form of layoffs to federal employees, as well as cuts to federal financial assistance (e.g. grants) and procurement (contracts).

DOGE has massive $1T target by the first year. If they intend to meet that then they will eventually have to focus on the defense agencies. It’s a bit tricker though since naturally defense deals with more sensitive domains along with a few other considerations like cuts to defense being unpopular with MAGA/conservative base. It will happen though unless there’s some major change in direction for the administration.

What do you mean rumors? It’s been very very publicly spoken about from the president and Sec Def

Seriously. I don't expect everyone to be aware of everything instantly, but if you're gonna make a thread about it... I'd be worried if I was OP, given their behavior 😅

I just got sponsored by the Dept. of Defense on the learning platform Coursera.org. They just started Career Development Program, (security architect/ management), every new course I enroll into it says accessible through your organization. They laid out a learning path and everything. I pass a course the meter highlighting the depth of experience Ive got with that skill towards which ever skill that course was on, would raise. Only a few spots tho. But yea..... Take about CHANGE MANAGEMENT! Getting making head way for a younger generation like minded like X

Now my standard util is 40 and my adjusted is 105... and this project last in another month... by then my standard util might be 20.. will my promotion be affected by this? My target promotion year on TOD is 2022. My manager said we might sell to client and extend this project in September but nothing guaranteed.
