Hello everyone. I will be transitioning from the Navy soon and want to work in the cybersecurity field. I have an active secret clearance, BS in strategic intelligence, working on a masters in cybersecurity, and taking Security+ in December. No work experience in cyber, just my education and bootcamp course for Security+. Should I still apply for job that want 2-5+ years cyber experience and/or an active TS clearance?

Not necessarily. You can shoot your shot but if you’re applying for a role requiring experience you don’t have and a level of clearance you won’t be able to receive in months and requires sponsorship (risk on your employer) it’s a long chance. If you had the years of experience already, a better chance

I would recommend you decide what firm you are interested in joining, then take any role to get your foot in the door, and use corporate training dollars to obtain any cyber certs you might also need.

The role you’re asking about might be a great first try; sometimes the YOE is flexible and sometimes it isn’t.

But either way, the firm should (ours does) have recruiters who are solely focused on military hiring. Try to connect with them for info. Also look into the Hiring our Heroes program. I’m actually working with another soon-to-be Navy retiree right now to get him placed. Happy to answer any questions via PM too.

I’d recommend going through one of the vet hiring programs - we have one at Deloitte, and ids specifically tailored to military vets who have strong experience and considers that it might not be exactly in what you would do in a consulting role. I think it would be pretty easy to transition into a cyber role given your academics. Feel free to DM me if you’d like to know more or need a referral. (I work with some or our veteran hiring programs).

Sounds like your best bet is to leverage your master’s degree and school network for your next step. Certs will help alleviate your limited experience.

Hello all, I am a production manager for a sign design and manufacturing company. I have been with the company for six years now starting as lead graphic designer working my way to the production manager. since becoming the production manager two years ago I am responsible for 4 large format printers and 1 vinyl plotter. I’m wearing too many hats but I love what I do. I would love to be a remote graphic designer but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?

Would you take a freelance gig that would be a promotion (with potential to join full time) with a smaller company whose values you really agree with, OR a full-time offer for a lateral move with a larger company with teammates you know and trust? Of course factoring in all the nuances of covid. TIA!

I’m a Junior product manager with a Master’s in Healthcare Management. I feel like the current company that I am at has my title as JPM, but I am doing PM work i.e creating product roadmaps, collaborating across stakeholders (business, marketing, design teams), creating user stories/features, etc. and I feel like my work isn’t being valued and I’m constantly being micromanaged by business teams expectations.

How feasible is it for me to apply to a PM role with less than a year of experience?

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. Mostly want to explore other areas. Other things to consider: planning for babies in the next 3-5 years; maternity leave in current position is basically what's legally required.
